Most Americans are genuinely good people, regardless of their political affiliation. So when the White House says horrible things to make you hate your neighbor, the White House IS THE PROBLEM.
The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion, after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year alone. Meanwhile, the rest of the country is getting squeezed by tariffs and high prices for groceries, utilities, and health care. The system is broken.
Pope Leo understands that poverty is not a choice or a personal failing. It’s not a reflection on the individual. It’s a systemic failure. Wealth inequality is at an all time high and social supports are beyond inadequate. We can provide for everyone, and it’s time we start.
