Over year ago, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed a bill putting the state on track to complete two landmark reports to prepare for climate-driven migration. But just three months before the first report is due, officials have yet to staff the team putting it together. grist.org/migration/il...

Illinois passed the nation’s first climate migration law. The effort has languished since.

More than a year after the law was signed, the state has made little progress and appears poised to miss a December deadline for a required report.

This makes it seem like misleading reporters about the President's location is the story... But it sounds like Trump was taken to a safe place while reporters were left on the plane that they believed Iran might attack. That seems worth spelling out. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/10/u...

“The only trait that consistently predicted objections to remote work was narcissism — the tendency to be self-centered and entitled. The higher the opinions of themselves leaders expressed, the more they coveted power and status — and the more they favored return-to-office mandates.”

What really drives leaders to resist remote work isn't productivity. It’s ego. Our new data: Ordering people in full-time is a power and status move. Bosses want to be worshiped at the office altar. Work policies shouldn’t be vanity projects. Hybrid is better for people and performance.

When I started working on a plan for a local journalism nonprofit, the focus was accountability, accuracy and funding. But this is an emotional enterprise too. Local journalism connects people with good, shared information. There's a hunger for this now. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/06/16/h...

A detail I didn’t know: “The Herald entered the Epstein series for a Pulitzer Prize that year, but it was not a finalist. Alan Dershowitz … who helped broker Epstein’s original deal, wrote a letter to the Pulitzer committee that year, urging them not to honor Brown’s work.” share.inquirer.com/THMiUZ

Brown's 2017 and 2018 reporting was cited at the awards ceremony. “Her work, and the government’s release of the Epstein files, continue to reverberate around the world.”

There are things I will no longer say out loud in my own home because I know devices are listening. I was reminded of that recently when I made a derogatory remark about a fruit bouquet company and now their ads show up online. Where will we draw a line on privacy?
