Catch Tom Mix in TRAILIN' (1921) at the UCLA Festival of Preservation on May 31st. Preserved with a grant from the NFPF, TRAILIN' is a rip-roaring tale of the wild west. Congratulations to UCLA Film & Television Archive on another amazing festival! www.filmpreservation.org/blog/2026/5/...
Tonight in Oakland at Shapeshifters Cinema, we’ll be screening a group of short films exploring theme parks and avant-garde cinema. Should be weird. www.tickettailor.com/events/shape...
Essential documentation of Alan Abel’s SINA, an important group dedicated to clothing all God’s mammalian creatures. From JL Books.

Antonella, Cecilia and I are putting on a show in Oakland on May 24th. If you’re interested in theme parks and/or avant-garde film, this is for you. I think it’s fun for curious folks in general. And there will be beer and popcorn. www.tickettailor.com/events/shape...
In other news I think I can finally listen to The Silver Jews again without breaking down into a ball of sadness.

Heads up SF: tomorrow at 2pm at SFMoMA is a free screening of George Kuchar movies, including rare 16mm preservation prints of MOTEL CAPRI & ONE NIGHT A WEEK from Harvard Film Archive. A fantabulous chance to see these and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Returned to the Castro to see a 40th anniversary screening of Return to Oz with Walter Murch in person. A wonderful night presented by Movies for Maniacs.
Visited The Trees of Mystery on the Oregon Coast. Way above expectations-a stunning skylift, a walking trail up and in the trees, and the vintage Paul Bunyon Tall Tale Trail.
Finally made it to The Enchanted Forest in Salem, Oregon. Pretty amazing!
