Glomerular basement membrane structural integrity dictates trans-tissue deposition of laminin in the kidney
Basement membranes (BMs) are specialized extracellular matrices (ECMs) essential for tissue structure and function. In non-vertebrates, ECM components…

This makes me very curious about the COL4A5 variant!
Ah makes sense…working on a one-pager for patients in this setting. Strangely, colleague had a male in 30s with col4a5 asymptomatic without hematuria and proteinuria, normal GFR, detected on reproductive screening genetic test done prior to marriage
Highlights from my talk yesterday on Alport syndrome spectrum of disorders. (since no one posted it, I'll have to do it myself) Variants in type IV collagen cause a wide spectrum of disease. #KidneyWk 🧵
Thanks to Julie Inglefinger for this enlightening summary at ASN KidneyCure Week!

Mouse Alport podocytes are susceptible to AAV9 transduction in vivo
Alport syndrome features a defective glomerular basement membrane (GBM) due to variants in COL4A3, COL4A4, and COL4A5. The most severe forms, which lack the GBM’s collagen α3α4α5(IV) network, progress...
