I'm a scientist! Asst Prof at Univ of Delaware | RNA biochemistry, RNA modifications, (metallo)enzymology, structural biology, and chemistry | Postdoc at UCSF | PhD at UCBerkeley | he/him mugridgelab.org

As the lab graduates more PhDs, I'm really feeling just how painful it is to constantly be losing your most senior people! 😭 (that's the goal of course! But it's still tough to always be sending off your best folks who've built up deep expertise on projects and techniques!)

Lots of turnover in the lab over the past academic year! Brittany Shimanski and Luke Calzini both finished PhDs (the 3rd + 4th PhDs from the lab)! Each did nice work on the selectivity and regulation of RNA demethylases; read their preprints here: doi.org/10.1101/2025... doi.org/10.1101/2025...

Anyone have tips for making active homemade Phusion polymerase? We have a plasmid (no his tag), and are doing purification by heat denaturation and then sizing, from which we get *a lot* of purified protein. But we can't see any polymerase activity from these purified preps!
