Nick Haslam's "Concept Creep and the Mental Health Crisis" makes a compelling case for how expanding mental health concepts may actually be making our mental health worse. He reviews the empirical evidence on semantic inflation, the potential adverse effects of it, and what we can do about it.
We analysed 14 million Reddit posts to reveal a striking shift in how we talk about mental health. We show a shift in conversations toward ADHD and autism, and away from anxiety and depression. These changes will likely influence how people make sense of, and seek help for, mental health problems.
