I knew nothing. I came from not much of anything. I was 21, a girl from Arizona with a horizon that ended at the desert’s edge. I dreamed of the world the way people dream of ghosts—something felt but never seen.

My time at the UN Special Envoy for #Syria will draw to a close in a few weeks. It has been an honor. Some things resist being captured in words — & what this work has meant is one of them. What remains is immense gratitude. For Syria. For its beauty. For its people.
