Very sad news from the North-East today. Mick Morris, an icon of Australian wine and master fortified maker, has left us, aged 98. A great innings from a gentle, humble genius. Only last month we were at Rutherglen to raise a glass of miraculous 1928 Muscat to him. Vale Mick and thank you.
I think this might be too sad for me, but as Gaz implies, Sebastian Barry is brilliant.

Full credit to Fremantle today, a fantastic win for them in really tough circumstances and fully deserve their finals spot as a result, but by jeez the Western Bulldogs have played some dumb footy, and been incredibly fumbly. Inexplicable really, given the stakes. #AFLDogsFreo

Listening to this great album reminded me I hadn’t caught up with Willy Vlautin’s latest book, The Horse. I have now and just ate it up. It’s up there with his best, a musing on the perils and pleasures of the musician’s life and a heartbreaker.
