lmao I feel the need to defend them because I have borrowed a version of their branding for my own purposes, but it's weird to see people being mad about penguin classics being printed on cheap thin paper with cheap bindings. like. that's the mission statement of the brand.

wait when did we get the rest of the tracklist for Wild. what the fuck is "hootie frutti"
It's SO wild to me that this was originally published as just part 1, Last Letters from Hav and then TWENTY YEARS went by before she wrote Hav of the Myrmidons, because that part 2 feels like the whole reason for it to exist. I struggled to get on its wavelength early on but I'm glad I kept with it

I'm not gonna lie to you, I was kind of worried about AI-automated software testing hurting my job as a QA tester, but after seeing it in action for the past 7 or 8 months, I am no longer concerned lmao this tool can't do shit
Some backyard birders might be put off by my legions of song sparrows, but not me. I see them and think “okay, onto step 2 of the plan: teaching them a simple system of hand signals so they will serve as my scouts in battle” obviously

I did not realize we would not be able to use the new bath for 24 hours after they finished so no celebratory bath last night, but tonight.... we're breaking out the bath bombs
Our bathtub and shower are being replaced tomorrow and this is something I've been looking forward to doing basically since we moved into this house four years ago, I'm so excited

Monsieur Dumas makes a frequent point of explaining D’Artagnan’s more absurd behaviors by reminding the reader that he is twenty years old and it’s like, you know what, yeah, that’s fair
I would just like to say that I have been doing this for about two months now and 1) I have memorized ten short poems, for reasons still unclear even to me, and 2) it has become abundantly obvious that rhyme is the cheat code of the brain
I’m on the brink of going freak mode with poetry though, I keep looking at resources for memorizing long poems and accidentally ending up on sites for weird homeschool kids; I don’t even know why, it just compels me as a little project (I have a terrible memory)
A masterpiece. And it has some of the all-time great John Sayles lines, which is saying a lot. The one that never leaves my mind is David Strathairn as the sheriff saying of a person he dislikes "I wouldn't piss on him if his heart was on fire."
MATEWAN is film that all of you should watch. It's a masterpiece that's more relevant now than it was in 1987.
In better news, my second transplanted rose bush bloomed too, also was not expected to flower this year and also my “hibiscus the size of dinner plates” are here
Today I did some more Collegiate Gothic (PbtA, dark academia, crime) playbook moves; wrote a big list of scene prompts for Moving Out of the Girl Group House (zine game, real life events); and typed up some old notes for Rather Die Than Doubt (3-player Arthurian romantic tragedy) that I forgot about
Today I wrote out some backstory and relationship set-up questions for Greatness (GMless oneshot, artistic rivalry), and again on scene and round structure for The Squire's Sword (by which I mean I made a matrix of all the player roles and all the segments of the game to keep it all straight)
The sparrows are absolutely showering the mourning dove with seeds that apparently do not meet their own standards and the dove is just happily having dinner rain down on her
when you're on a train of thought and hit a brake like "girl that's crazy, that's the crazy talking" so you try thinking about something else entirely and end up sounding crazy over there too and it's like oh the problem is the thinker not the subject
sometimes mail comes for Greg that has his middle name on it too and I'm like "who the hell is that" it's fine we've only lived together for nine years
The guy working on my bathroom today has the radio on and it is: the good radio station that reminds me I am old now
I haven’t bothered setting up Bluetooth in the rental car, so I’ve mostly been listening to the radio, and I have bad news: the “best of the 70s, 80s, and 90s” station that I used to think was boring when I was in high school is now The Good Radio Station
It’s not really his problem but every time I hear Matt Smith trying to be a serious dragon guy on the dragon show I still just think “oh it’s the fez dweeb”

I remember being skeptical of this as a child, both with HP and AGAIN a few years later when Twilight-mania was the big thing. 9 years old in the school library begging my friends to try some of the other books I recommended 😔
During the original Harry Potter boom, some librarians and academics expressed concern about kids wanting to read ONLY that. They were shouted down. "AT LEAST THEY ARE READING, THEY WILL GET A TASTE AND LOVE ALL READING SOON" Three decades on, I think we owe the librarians and academics an apology
We had a shopping session in Before the Season Ends today and it ended up being the most "trad"-feeling, min-max-y session I think it is possible to have in this game 😂 absolutely incredible jen-adcock15.itch.io/before-the-s...

I like that Splatoon Raiders tells you the level cap is 50, but you DO keep leveling up past that, they just show that you're "level 50 + 1" like okay, so I'm level 51 and you lied to me lmao. you just stop getting new skill tokens at level 50
