So this is the current “finished”? Jexabell, and I just am not happy. Usually my shading method is to clip light/shadow to each flat color and adjust individually. This time I wanted a universal light, soo tried one light layer and 2 shadow layers. I don’t love it, the colors don’t feel right.

An illustration of Jexabell (OC) in various stages. All are the same pose; a vaguely Victorian and Edwardian mashup of clothing, her hair pinned up in vintage curls, holding a book.
1. the outlines
2. flat grayscale
3. grayscale with light and shadow added
4. flat colors
5. blue light and purple shadow overlayed

Blerg. I tried a different way to render a portrait, didn’t like it, and now my brain is like, “this cannot be done, can’t finish the portrait”. I know I can go back to my preferred shading method, but I’m blocked.

When Facebook first got popular, you had a section for photos, your friend list, and links. Because posting links was that infrequent. This was around the time teens would “sneak out” to the family computer at night. Just turn the dial on the speakers down so your parents don’t hear the dial-up.

Without revealing your actual age, what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?

And the biggest thing I want is to be able to save wherever rather than having to run back home (and wait through the loading screens) to do it. So if ever pterosaurs are introduced, I think they should be for fast travel and saving.

I have ideas for dino abilities (jobs?). Some of the big ones should be “loaders” that you can buy saddlebags for and get extra storage spaces when you’re out foraging, and some “shakers” that can get extra fruit off trees.

You know what? Heck it. This year I’m putting out CC art. I already have one portrait icon pack up in itch for commercial and personal use, I’m going to expand that to more packs of the same style. But also just, I like making art. People who make games need art. I’ll give them some. Make game.

The Wiggle Game 1. Wiggle a part of your body 2. Wiggle something that is not part of your body 3. Commit the smallest wiggle 4. Conduct the largest wiggle 5. Find a wiggle in a place a wiggle should not be. 6. Win condition: your heart wiggles in joys

SNEAKY POSITIVITY Roll 1d10 The result is how many people you have to stealthily compliment or encourage without them realizing you’re playing. Whomstever successfully (and honestly, sincerely) compliments enough people first wins! Then everyone playing should encourage each other, win or lose.

I need everyone to make a shitpost game that fits into at most 3 posts on here before the end of the year otherwise thr sun will not rise again

My current WIP, Jexabell Pendryn! the character I’ll be playing for the solo Gentleman Scoundrel show in Jan. Usually my work is EXTREMELY colorful, but for blades I’m taking a slightly different approach. She’ll be all b/w, with an electroplasmic streetlight giving her some dramatic green glow.

Steps of an illustrated character, still in progress. On the far left are a few references of femme portraits, Edwardian and Victorian dress, and some anime-looking duster coat.
1. “Photo ash refs together, adjust for cohesive perspective” under outlines of various colors, signifying the pieces I pulled from each photo. They come together to make a woman with a vaguely Edwardian silhouette. She has big curled hair with sausage ringlets falling over he chest, a ruffled blouse, waist corset and long ruffled skirt. She’s got a large coat draped over her shoulders and she’s holding open a book.
2. “Ink outlines, add details” same character but with maybe adjustments to perspective and body type, line weight and lace details added.
3. “Unhappy, change blouse” upda tee d outline of the same character with a different blouse, with more frills. MOR FRILLS DAMMIT
4. “Flat colors and textures on fabric” as it sounds, the flat colors for the same character in all grays. There are some slight textures on the fabrics to make them feel more like linen, tweed, and other knits.

The AI anxiety has made me so squeamish with posting art online the past few years. It just makes my heart jittery. I think this coming year I will start posting like, maybe WIPs or something so I can get into a better place about it. But I don’t think just posting finished pieces will feel good.

I haven’t consumed IT in any form, but I’m under the impression ITs a clown because clowns were not scary at the time. So if the story were set now IT would be like…Mr Beast. If it were set 15 years ago, IT would’ve been Shrek. Idk if that’s right but the thought is Nightmare fuel.

shrek from the movie shrek is smiling and looking down

Alt: shrek looking like he knows something you don’t, but this gif has a red filter and in context this looks very ominous

I heard (ymmv) what makes humans dangerous hunters isn’t claws, venom, not even tools. It’s endurance. That humans could stalk a mammoth until it’s exhausted, and bring it down together. I’m looking at a huge, unkillable, “inevitable” mammoth of GenAI thinking, we can kill this together.

I have TWO distinct styles I have curated and honed over years. I’m not anybody special, but I really think opening myself up to an AI scrape would just break my heart too much. Posting a finish piece feels bad, it feels ominous. I know this is anxiety, but I still feel it.

Gauntlet 64!!!!! But I was a big Neopets girlie and I played Skylanders up until I had to get rid of all my figureines last year. Also wore out the N64 with Pokémon snap, and the sleeper favorite is Grabbed By the Goulies for Xbox.

What is the video game that oozes childhood memories for you? Club Penguin, Neopets, Habbo Hotel, Angry Birds, Runescape, Friv, World of Warcraft, Skylanders. Something else?

Sigh. We moved from MN to VA before the house sold. In May. And then the market completely dried up, and we’re paying mortgage on the house until next spring when it will hopefully sell. And our current rent. Rent and mortgage, same time. Whole year.

I don’t give a shit about your accomplishments this year. What’s the dumbest shit you did the past 12 months? The truly stupidest decision you made in 2025?

friends, it's the shortest daylight time of the year. seasonal depression is at its peak. most people are celebrating holidays, so folks are going to be less available. nobody is ignoring you, don't trust how you feel about your life past 9pm, get enough sleep, and take your meds. it'll pass.
