Once again, our defensive frailty is being papered over by Kane and Bellingham...
Spending a windy and wet Thursday morning listening to the @natcen.bsky.social British Social Attitudes 43 deep dive. Interesting discussions about the value of HE as well as some of the data about the current supporter base for Reform, giving plenty of food for thought...
I simply refuse to believe this isn’t a Chris Morris sketch:
Blowing away the cobwebs in Cornwall after a hectic few weeks at work, alongside my viva (finally!)
A remarkable stat: Heidi Alexander’s appointment as Transport Secretary means the cabinet is now 100% state-educated for the first time in history.
Rainy weekend writing... my co-author is doing all the heaving thinking, clearly.
I shared this on the hellsite but it's sad news. I remember his lectures during my UG degree at Lancaster (and seeing him smoking his pipe outside the department), and although he was Emeritus Prof when I returned for my MA/PhD he still had a big presence in the dept. He'll be much-missed, I'm sure.
Very sad to hear of the passing of David Denver - one of Britain’s leading psephologists over half a century and a hugely liked member of the academic community. www.psa.ac.uk/psa/news/mem...
My mum apologised for the 'boring' birthday present (that I explicitly asked for). I can't wait to read it! ❤️
Seeing the year out cosy at home, with fondue, the cat, and Victoria Wood. Happy New Year!
This piece (and the comment section) is really interesting: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... Is it better to acknowledge that each instance of something might be the last, or does that stop us from living in the moment?
Finally made the switch over from the hellsite... Now the task of finding everyone I followed over there that have also made the move.
