Autumn starting to come in and so I made Goulash for dinner - this is a veggie version and very tasty too.
Our local pool closed the outdoor pools today. After our morning swim (indoors) we attended the closing event which is one where people can bring their dogs to the pool and they can play (the pools are then emptied and cleaned). Was fun. Not the best picture though - sorry. #dogs
Balcony garden has turned up trumps once more. From mixed tomatoes to Spaghetti alla Norma (with added aubergine and basil). Delicious. Can't tell you how pleased I've been with the balcony garden this summer. #gardening #balconyGardening
Parcel arrived today from Medimops - that's my bedtime reading sorted for a week or two (maybe a bit longer than that) #books #mysteryNovels
Today's haul for tonight's ratatouille. I've been so pleased with the aubergine and pepper plants. There's another meal's worth still on the plant. And my toms are coming in. #balconyGarden #gardenProduce
In the Spring, I bought a mixed packet of seeds - no idea really what they were. Put them in a trough on my balcony. Anyway, this appeared this week. I don't know what it is - my friends say it's a zinnia - but I like it. #bloomScrolling
I've been watching these grow in a neighbour's garden - a reminder I now live in a wine growing area though I guess they're dessert grapes not wine grapes. #Summer2026
The hot weather still hasn't let up in Germany so we went out for the traditional Italian solution. Mine is raspberry & salted caramel. Him Indoors had salted caramel too but with whiskey cream! Zwei kugel. #iceCream #Eiscreme #summer2026
This truly magnificent tree lives in our local town park and this is how it looked this morning during my morning walk on the way to the coffee shop. #trees
Went out into our local town yesterday where they're having a festival and decided to visit the part that was the craft fair just to 'have a look'. We are a couple of hopeless spendthrifts. You can't really tell from the picture but the glasses have a beautiful iridescence. #brunnenfest #oberursel
Since we moved apartment (March) & gained access to a balcony, I have realised just how much I have missed gardening in the 5 years since we came to Germany. This is my herb trough, the first thing that's really come together. More (much) to come. Maybe I should start a series. #balconyGardening
Today's lunch: I love arancini. Followed by a small divine chocolate truffle laced with a little rum and covered in white chocolate and pistachios. A little Italian café in Frankfurt (Casa Nostra) who make the pastries: more precisely by Antonio's (joint owner) dad who was a pastry chef in Milan.
Somebody posted this on a Discord server I frequent. Possibly the most Edwardian feline gentleman I have ever seen. #caturday
This was our Easter visitor. For a Britisher, it was a rare treat. If you're German, not so much. #squirrel #squirrelCrimeWave #balconyView
Spargelzeit in Germany - one of the best times of year to be here, I think. Though the Germans think I'm mad for liking the Green stuff. Don't care, it's delicious. #asparagus #spargel #germany
Just had the best Saturday luncheon: homemade leek & potato soup + crusty brotchen and some Stilton I managed to get from Frankfurt's Galeria markt (expensive). It's a Colston Bassett too so worth it. Followed by a slice of stollen (made last week) & proper cappuccino made with the espresso machine.
So it's cooked and this is just before I introduced it to the brandy bottle and wrapped it up for the night. It will get another feed in a few days and we'll eat it at New Year I think. #Christmas #ChristmasCake #Christmas2025
Finally started on the Christmas cake. I'm late this year. Soaking in brandy till tomorrow #christmas2025 #christmas #christmasCake
I somehow managed to take a stylish festive picture. Christmas platz in Frankfurt. #christmas2025 #frankfurt #christmas
Stulle - a current favourite evening meal. Love German bread. Also Kalamata olives. #germany #germanFood #dinner
Christmas is definitely getting started in Frankfurt now. Christmas market has cheered up the cold, grey days with pretty colours though it will be a little longer before it gets going fully. #christmas #frankfurt #christmasMarket I still can't believe the amount of food available.
Starting the day right with a coffee & stollen at Wackers in Frankfurt. Christmas has arrived apparently: the Xmas market opened today. Not much going on tbh given it's the first day; a grey a chilly day in the last week of November. It'll get busier. #christmas2025 #coffee #wackersFrankfurt
I have to say leggings are a blessing at this time of year #winter #frankfurt #leggings
Talking about soups (again). This time Butternut Squash: a favourite. frankfurtreport.wordpress.com/2025/11/14/a... #soup #recipe #autumn
Autumn Soups – Butternut Squash
Yummy, warming Butternut Squash soup. A long-time favourite of mine. And what could be better as the cold Autumn night start drawing in. Butternut Squash Soup with Brötchen and Greek Salad I make …

From Ma Pasta in Sachsenhausen, Frankfurt - our lunch. One with truffle pesto, the other with chorizo and tomato. Fresh pasta. Delicious #pasta #frankfurt #sachsenhausen #mapasta
