I sold 12k+ copies of my debut book, BLACK WOMEN TAUGHT US. It was Amazon's Best History pick and a finalist for the PEN America Open Book Award. Penguin Random House is the number one press in the world. And, I still have to prove this book's worth to academics every day. It's exhausting.

I published 4 academic articles this year. Two articles were in top journals. I have a book coming out in June and another book under advance contract, both at top presses. Yet, as a Black woman who studies Black people, folks will still disregard my research like I've done nothing at all.

I finally received the full reading of my brain map from a few months ago. The results: autism, ADHD, CPTSD, insomnia, and mild OCD. It's nuts to me that I've achieved so much and never received a single accommodation.

This is #marfansyndrome. My daughter had her first Marfan Syndrome related surgery on Monday. Surgeons corrected the curvature in her spine which was obstructing the full use of her lungs. She went into surgery at 6'2" and she is now 6'4" tall.

I signed a book deal with W.W. Norton & Company to publish my next project, COME OUTSIDE: BLACK LOVE IN A WIDE-OPEN PLACE. Let's go.

I saw data suggesting that more and more Americans are dipping into their savings accounts to pay for groceries. Coupling that with sweeping job losses and retractions of medical aid for families across the country, I'm really concerned about what this holiday season looks like for so many families.

With Trump decimating the SNAP program, Mamdani creating subsidized grocery stores seems like a policy more local government should create. Call it socialism all you want, people need to eat.

My daughter woke up from surgery in tears bc she's so happy we left Syracuse. She was bullied viciously and internalized so much of it. She said she's always afraid ppl secretly hate her bc of how the girls treated her. She's only 14. Sometimes, we have to show our kids there's better out there.

Just a reminder that more than 800k Black women have been pushed out of the labor/employment market since Trump took office. How we are not talking about that daily is astounding to me.

My daughter is having her first Marfan Syndrome related surgery this summer to correct a severe curvature in her spine. She has scoliosis which is common for folks with Marfan's. We're lucky to have had care early on to diagnose her at 3 years old. This is Marfan. *image shared with permission
