Very sad to hear of the passing of John Blanche. As someone who arrived in 40k in 2nd Ed, his artwork has always been the cornerstone of its imagery to me: bleak, baroque, intimidating, confusing. Time rolls on, of course, but it's hard not to feel that a piece of 40k's origins is gone too. RIP.
