Cyprus and Syria have established a bilateral agreement accepting the return of Syrians intercepted while attempting to reach Cyprus by sea. Cyprus has also revised its asylum policy, moving away from automatically granting asylum to Syrians. The first country being able to do so post-Assad.

The numerous raids of Israel in rural areas of Daraa and Quneitra have given locals a sense of usual depth of operations. However, reaction is gradually crystallizing; any incursion that will go deeper and reach the more populated areas could meet armed local resistance.

An unprecedented wave of Israeli airstrikes targeted airbases and other military locations throughout Syria. It is meant as a warning to Turkey not to establish any bases inside Syria, as preparations were underway.

An agreement was reached between the Syrian government and SDF to gradually open Kurdish inhabited Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhoods in Aleppo and integrate them in the Syrian state. A first and preliminary step to ease the path of incorporation of NE-Syria into the Syrian state.

An attempt by IDF to enter the village and arrest locals in the village of Koya in W-Daraa was thwarted by them. It triggered retaliatory action of Israel, including tank shelling and air strikes, wounding and killing several. An ultimatum has been given to evacuate the village within 2 hours.

The proof is in the pudding. In practice, if this is not followed by Damascus gaining access to the border and having a say in NE-Syria's oil and gas facilities, it is just a meaningless sheet of paper maintaining the status quo. Actions matter.

An agreement has been signed to integrate Syrian Democratic Forces into Syrian Arab Army. While being a principle agreement it still can be considered an important first step.

A coordinated attempt by high ranking officers from former regime units took place to disrupt security in Latakia and Tartous and oust security forces. Massive reinforcements of Military Operation unblocked the roads again, operations are ongoing to end holed up regime remnants.

EU is expected to grant Syria a 1-year-suspension of sanctions, related to energy, transport, reconstruction & banking transactions at a meeting on February 24. However, further sanction relief will only be responsive to steps towards inclusion, new constitution and elections.

At UN Security Council briefing on Syria, US Representative clarified parts of US' Syria policy; hinting at the end of financial support for IS detention facilities in NE-Syria, referring to it as a financial burden.

A supreme Alawite Islamic Council has been established, consisting of 130 sheikhs from all areas of Syria with alawi presence, headed by the Mufti of Latakia. It is considered a necessary temporary council until the establishment of the National Unity Government.

Russia is looking what future can bring for relations with Syria. A high-level Russian delegation will visit Damascus to launch a comprehensive dialogue on relations between Syria and Russia. Despite its destructive role, Damascus isn't reluctant to maintain relations of sorts.

As security campaigns of General Security go on, Homs countryside seems to be quite problematic. It's a mixed area with different sects and communities, some associated with former regime and other that fell victim to it. There is quite some grudge towards one and the other. 1/5

Mazloum Abdi met with KRG president Barzani in Erbil. Despite discussing Kurdish unity, motives are different. Abdi seeks support for survival of NE-Syria, while Barzani looks to take advantage of the fall of the Assad regime to increase influence with Kurds in Syria.
