Found a piece of cryo-vacced haddock in the freezer so I had fish chowder for lunch.
Today’s version of weird facts. The same molecule, limonene, is responsible for the the smell of lemons and oranges. They smell different because of their chirality; the two molecules are mirror images of the other. Different molecule, carvone, does the same thing in caraway and spearmint.
Pretty sure this Free Little Library wasn’t there 24 hours ago when I was on yesterday’s pre-breakfast walk. Now to rustle up some books to contribute.
New (old) Dylan coming in November. 381 tracks, 371 of which have never been released. There’s a certain ragged desperation in this leg of the tour, very different from the 1975 dates, and I’m there for it.
I surprised myself with how happy I was when walking into Costco this morning and seeing these stacked by the door. It really is the little things.
So we’ve 1 episode left in The Ninth Jedi, and it occurs to me there’ve been a *lot* of deaths. Which makes me wonder if Star Wars: A New Hope, ostensibly a movie for kids, has the highest body count for one movie. I mean they blew up a whole planet and the Death Star, so *billions* of beings. 🤨
youtu.be/Ph7SZcdIK0E?... First of four parts from the tour closer. For a bunch of (mostly) old farts, they certainly still bring it.* *As judged by this old fart.

Amidst all the heartfelt tributes to Dolly Parton, it’s been overlooked that she did a cover of Stairway To Heaven that redeems the overwrought original. music.apple.com/ca/album/sta... In fact, her trio of acoustic, mostly bluegrass, albums from 1999-2002 stand with any part of her catalog.

We just started watching this. It’s set in Glasgow and is in English. We still need the subtitles on. Really good show, btw.
The Human Switchboard nostalgia got me thinking of this place and the few visits with a music buddy. Beth was appalled a few years later, after we met, and I showed her pictures of the place. “You went there!?!!” Perhaps the most culturally significant venue I’ve been to.
Randomly came across a reference to these guys & got nostalgic. Saw them shortly after university in a basement club in Kenmore Square; not The Rat, but a literal stone’s throw from it. I’d forgotten just how much girl group, garage rock, and art rock was included with the remembered VU influences.
Been making ribs the last few days. Honey Garlic, Classic BBQ, and Cajun dry rub with no sauce. Potato salad or salsa corn on the side.
Sonny Rollins died yesterday at 95. Last surviving musician from the A Great Day In Harlem photo.
Bob’s 85 today. Noted sailor and musician. It’s not widely known that he auditioned for Joey on Friends. Third pic: How you doin? Perhaps the best guest spot in TV history (4th pic) was his appearance on Dharma And Greg. Find it on YouTube and thank me later.
1980: not a bad year for music. Village Voice critics poll. I’ve owned 24/30 at one time or another.
I carried through on yesterday’s theorizing and did indeed make some ramen noodles with a zippy peanut sauce for lunch. Chicken and cashews included, same as yesterday. Both were delicious but this was superior. 🥜🍜🐓
