Ya'll, please read this. Rift and Berry are some of the kindest, most supportive people in this hobby, and it sucks that something that should've been resolved a long time ago, is still ongoing after the fact. bsky.app/profile/rift...

Hey there's stuff that's been on my mind a bit lately. Aside from some personal things, there's something that I've been wanting to speak up about regarding a close friend for a long time now. 🧵

Over the past several months, my friend Berry has been the target of rumors and bullying from parts of the community, and it has reached the point where she feels she has to quietly leave behind something she really loved. The situation that sparked these rumors was not her fault, and she does not deserve to be treated this way. I want to lay out the facts as I know and witnessed them, because she isn’t able to speak for herself. Although I’m anxious to talk about this, I want to believe in the community’s ability to be kind, and I hope that at least some will hear me out.

Overall, I’m still shaken up by things that happened both to me and my friend. I do hope that at the end of the day we can try to just talk things out rather than jump to conclusions, especially with everything going on at the moment.

To be honest, this is something I’ve been wanting to speak up about for some time. I've been afraid to do so, because when trying to do so privately, I was made to feel a bit unsafe too. Even if things have started to get a bit better for me personally, paranoia is still somewhere in me.

I do hope that this post, as long as it is, manages to shed some light on what really happened behind the scenes (and what did not happen). But more importantly, I hope that it helps remind people to stop and reach out to one another more, and hear each other out, before jumping to conclusions and spreading gossip that ends in a bad game of telephone. It scares me to think that something like this could happen to someone else younger and less experienced in fandom culture.

With the current situation regarding the downsizing, I feel that right now, more than ever, should be the time we should be trying to support one another. Things feel uncertain and stressful, and many of us are struggling in some form, like grieving graduating talents or feeling helpless.

If you’ve managed to take the time to read through all of this I genuinely do appreciate it. I’m sure it’s a lot to take in, with everything else going on in the community at large. I also don’t expect everyone to take my word for things, and maybe some will even cut ties merely for speaking up about this.

As easy as it would be to pretend none of this happened, and how scary as it is to speak up about this in the first place (as I don’t seem to be the one being targeted specifically), I do care about my friendship and the community as a whole more than I fear angering those who never cared to know me in the first place. And I hope that says more about me than any rumors that might be around, before and after this post.

Berry has always been kind and supportive to me and others around her. Seeing her painted as a villain and pushed out of a community she loved was more than just disheartening. Even moreso, with people who knew better, but took advantage of the situation.

Project Timeline continuedMy personal experience working with Berry on projects, like Lost Souls. While it was saddening to see people spreading misinformation and jumping to conclusions, it was another level of disappointment when it was coming from people who knew the truth, but chose to take advantage of the confusion. As a collaborator, Berry can’t speak openly in a way that might cause issues for the talent or company, knowing she couldn’t speak up for herself made her a convenient scapegoat.

She’s devoted so much of her time, work, and resources to support and make things for the boys and Starmin. Seeing someone who cared so deeply about the community be attacked, ostracized, and painted as a villain has been more than just disheartening. Because of the work she does (designing products for the boys), she can’t even really take a break from Holostars or distract from it. It’s devastating to see firsthand the toll this has taken on my friend’s well-being.

We have been encouraging her to stay and show people her real character despite the rumors, but the hostility has reached a point where she told us it’s best that she leaves the community quietly. She didn’t want her presence to end up being a source of negativity or tension for everyone, or add more stress to Flayon’s plate.

Seeing my friend who tried to do everything right still get treated as a villain, even by some who were close to her, just really broke something inside of me. This same community that had managed to bring us all out of a dark place we were in before, was now pushing her back into it.

What happened to spark this incident requires some context. While I don’t wish to dig up the past, there was a lot of misinformation and rumors spread, and I’d like to clear some things up by providing the real story, as someone who worked alongside her on multiple projects.

I want to start off by saying I don’t fault anyone lacking information for jumping to conclusions. I understand that it's natural to speculate and / or protect your own peace, but it still hurts hearing things being spread about me and my friends.

Ultimately, I really just wish people would’ve come directly to clarify things and let my character speak for itself. I just want to make it clear that my grief doesn’t come from people who fall into this category (as unfortunate as it is). Even if it’s a bit naive to think so, part of me likes to believe that being able to talk to people would ease tension.

While I would love to clarify everything, there might be more rumors I haven’t heard. At the very least, I would like to debunk several of them by providing some additional context, as someone who worked alongside her as a fellow project lead and close friend. For context, last year there was a fan project led by me and my friends that ended up getting a reaction from Flay that left people uneasy. While that alone was disheartening, he footnoted the reaction w/ a new set of rules, which had a more stern tone that was a bit alarming to some.

Recency bias led people to point fingers at the project, and in turn the leads (mainly at Berry, as she was the most high-profile, and already had people speaking negatively I’m assuming out of jealousy.)

Background Info About Machiroon Projects, for Context / Precedence:
- Project watchalongs used to be very common
- Flayon had previously said it was OK to coordinate things (like video premieres) with him by commenting on membership posts
- If he was too busy at a given time, he would let us know, and roons would wait until he scheduled it (around a month at most.)
- To our knowledge, projects would typically be looked over by management just before the relevant stream. (For instance, Birthday 2024 project review stream was slightly delayed from its scheduled start time, because projects were being checked over first.)
->Given the lack of clear information regarding fan projects and management checks, we can only speculate… but it doesn’t seem like there’s a specific guideline or approval system in place.

Project Submission Timeline Clarification :
Shortly before the project's completion, Berry posted a membership comment where she suggested a new option: the project could be uploaded as an unlisted video, and then linked on a membership post (or something similar) for a bit more privacy, so Flayon could schedule a watchalong when he was ready.
- This was for a few reasons:
->to avoid putting pressure on Flayon to coordinate a release date
->to be mindful of his boundaries, needs, and schedule
->to respect the manager approval process
She asked if this was something he would be comfortable with, and Flay seemed happy with that planLost Souls Project Timeline continuedClarification of method and discussion of contact for projects

I think this is important to talk about, even if it seems like it happened a long time ago. The cruelty she has been enduring is ongoing, the attacks on her character are rather severe, and it's honestly alarming…it terrifies me to think this could easily happen to someone else.

Berry is trapped in a particularly difficult position; given that her work involves designing and producing official merch for the Tempus boys, the stress affects both her personal life and her job. As a result, she cannot detach from the situation or get too involved in clearing things up herself. The situation has taken a significant toll on her mental health, and threatens her professional reputation.

For anyone unfamiliar, Berry is an artist in the community who has a history of giving a lot of her time, effort, and love to both talents and fans. She's created a lot of fan art and fan merch, helped out with organizing projects, and eventually began designing official merch in a licensed collaboration with the Tempus boys. Also, as an active participant in the community, she was always doing her best to be supportive of her fellow Starmin, whether it was offering encouragement, advice, or reassurance.Examples of bullying towards her that I’ve witnessed:
- a viscous smear campaign (deliberate spreading of rumors and lies, sometimes using “evidence” that is removed from context in an attempt to push a false narrative)

- ostracizing / exclusion, including a coordinated mass-blocking after Flayon fixed a shadowban that prevented her from chatting for several months
-> Side note: we suspect that shadowban was likely caused by others aggressively reporting her, possibly in an attempt to trigger YouTube’s automod. It was not a normal ban; her membership continued to process, it lasted several months, and Flayon was able to reverse it on his end.

- aggressive, hostile, and hateful messages, ranging from snide comments in public chat spaces, to threats in her inboxSome examples of rumors that friends and I have heard are:
- accusations of her harassing a talent / abusing business resources to “access” him

- we saw proof that a former mod in McFlay’s (a large roon Discord server) was actively telling people that Berry stalked a talent at cons (which was not true, and this can be easily verified by those who were at the event in question)

- people calling her a gachikoi in public spaces

- accusations of coercion

- accusations of her “boycotting” a talent / trying to instigate a boycott (which makes zero sense when her business is still an active merch partner)

- a lot of people blaming her for things that happened in general

Quick disclaimer: - I won't be naming names unless needed for context. - This is not meant to be a callout post. I just want to get some feelings off my chest, as it has been bothering me for a long while. - Please do not assume or bring up unrelated events / topics, thank you.
