I used to love this game as a teen, but I can't play it anymore. With the wisdom of age, I'm just really not comfortable with how it (and so many wargames) just treat the Nazis as underdogs you can be excited about helping lead to victory as opposed to, you know, Nazis.

I was reading The Digital Antiquarian's series on Maxis, and it really got me thinking about how SimCity succeeded as a huge seller to "non-gamers" at the time. A lot of that came from coverage the game got in the mainstream press, which got "normal" people interested 1/

And if it's not a PC game, well, I'm assuming most non-gaming households don't happen to have PS5s or Switch 2s lying around, so the first barrier is discovering you need to purchase a several-hundred-dollar console. 8/

Big change implemented in Tyrants Must Fall: all units now have specific actions related to their current position on the battlefield! While positioning was important before, there were too many instances where players were "wasting" actions with units not able to do anything. #indiedev #indiegame

I know it's anecdotal, but I also genuinely feel that I have seen more people driving like absolute utter madmen since COVID than before. I don't know if it's a new lack of self preservation or a complete disregard for the existence of other people, but it ain't great.

I've seen more people just straight-up run red lights in San Diego since Covid than I had in my entire life up to that point. There's essentially zero traffic enforcement in Southern California.

Implementing a pretty substantial change to the battle system in Tyrants Must Fall today to address a nagging issue I feel isn't resonating with players the way I'd like. Scary, but exciting. Probably have a devlog when it's all done because I think it's going to kick the game up to the next level!

For me, it’s Wizardry and Ultima. Wizardry still lingers on in Japan, but is basically forgotten in the US.
