#Neuroracism highlights both historic and present racial inequalities relating to the brain. This year, we are sharing facts around disorders that are common in the Black community. We begin by placing neurological disorders in the wider context of worldwide disability. 🧵: 1/6

An infographic with different shades of pink. In the top right corner is the Black In Neuro logo. Centered is an elongated semi-circle with “neuroracism” titled along the curve. Below the text reads: Have you heard? NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS ARE THE SECOND LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH AND LEADING CAUSE OF DISABILITY WORLDWIDE. Below this is an image of the map of earth and the text #BINW26.

Happy #BINW26 !! I'm Dr. Clíona Murray and I am the Co-Director of Programming at Black In Neuro. The future that I'm reimagining is one where we can authentically show up in a space that was never designed for us. Each and every member of the BIN community remind me of that. So, thank you all 🫶🏽

A photograph of Clíona taken by her Godson (from a lower angle). She is closing her eyes, has her hands placed beneath her chin and head is tilted to the side with a smile. A photograph of a group of friends on a hike. The background is a typical English country lane with a small single-traffic road central and a large green space to the left of the image. Everyone is smiling, happy and cold!

Happy #BINW26 everyone! My name is Jheannelle Johnson, an incoming MSL candidate at Northwestern, and I’m the Director of Development for Black In Neuro. The future I’m reimagining is one where optimism meets opportunity for those who wish to enter neuroscience regardless of their background.

Happy #BINW26! I’m Dr Asma Bashir, a Canadian neuroscientist who’s currently supporting public engagement projects across two UK universities! The future that I’m helping to reimagine is one where anyone who wants to engage with academia, both formally or informally, can do so with joy and ease.

I am Betty, a PhD candidate at Emory University. My research focuses on understanding how changes in RNA can disrupt brain function. I imagine a future where scientific discovery is strengthened by inclusive collaborations across countries. (I will be moderating a BINW panel on this on Thursday!)
