Its kind of late in the year for First of Year birds, but we ventured to the Oregon Coast today and saw our FOY Surfbird. #birding
Well, I’m in a pickle now. What to do with this cucumber? Yowser! We try to pick them before they get this big, but this one was hiding. (How do you hide that thing??)
In case anybody is wondering—this is why I’m not #birding. Fixing the rotten porch stairs in back garden. Replaced all treads and risers and sistered up the stringers. I built these stairs 18 years ago and have learned a bit since. Makes me feel old. (Bushtits visiting fountain as I type this👍)
Band-tailed Pigeon with firewatch tower in background. Bohemia Mining District, near Cottage Grove, Oregon #birding
We went out #birding tonight but only photographed bugs. We did (finally!) see our FOY Green Heron. But too distant to photograph
I haven’t posted in a while & see I have a bunch of new followers. Welcome and thanks!!! ♥️♥️ Birding has been slow— we’ve had some house projects. Here’s a repost a crested(?) Helmet Shrike from Senegal in January. I’ll post again soon. Upcoming trips planned are Hawaii, Alaska and Argentina. 🪶
Today's #birdoftheday theme is #LifelnTheBalance, celebrating birds captured in precarious or unexpected positions. Here's a Giant Kingfisher at the point of no return, seen Senegal last January. I have it on good authority that Alan is keen on Kingfishers...
the Cedar Waxwings were putting on a fly catching show today over Grenadier Pond in High Park #Toronto #birdoftheday #birds #birding #wildlife #photography #canon
#Montana squirrels are the angriest and loudest squirrels. They were constantly scolding us for being in their habitat.
#Birdoftheday theme is #Grayday or #Greyday depending on your English… here’s a nice Oak Titmouse Cheers!
Kelli suggested a Chukar would be a better #RedBeak #BirdoftgeDay, so I will oblige her and share this lipstick partridge.
#RedBeaks is #BirdoftheDay theme. I’ll snatch this pic off my eBird of Heerman’s gulls I saw at Fort Stevens, Clatsop county Oregon in 2025. I call these guys “Lipstick Gulls.” They are klepto-parasitic feeders, stealing food from other gulls and terns.
I’m getting into #BirdoftheDay #Raptors theme late—having #Birded all day in The Bitterroot Mountains of Montana… here’s a favorite photo I took of a bemused Cooper’s Hawk. Cheers!
You know your in Ag Country when even the coffee roaster is a John Deere #Montana The Rising Trout Cafe, Lewistown MT
We weenied-out on the teepee camping tonight in North-central Montana as it’s going to rain and blow! We found a great little cabin owned by American Prairie. What a cool mission! americanprairie.org

I’m counting colors on this Green Jay, and I think it qualifies for #colorful theme for #Bordoftheday #Colourful Seen in Harlingen, Texas. 2019
