Great to see medical genome sequencing in Fiji 😊 Good story covering an outbreak in a neonatal department of the local hospital, finding the outbreak was caused a bacteria, Acinetobacter baumannii, resistant to the antibiotic carbapenem.

Scientists in developing countries need to be directly and equitably involved in collaborative research, and the tools currently available for this research need to be made available and adapted to all users.

The burden of infectious diseases is predominantly borne by the developing countries of Africa and Asia, but opportunities to pursue groundbreaking research are limited or unavailable for scientists in resource-restricted regions.
