As the worrying weeks dragged on my dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time & inhabiting art's most iconic scenes. What he produced (& how quickly) was phenomenal...
I came downtown tonight to investigate the house music, um, festival in the local park from the cover of the bar across the street. There is in fact very loud, bass-driven music playing for the three people in the park, while Janis Joplin is on the bar's speakers. Gotta love the can-do attitude.

I believe my grandmothers (however many "greats" as needed) had shotguns for these situations.

Maria Dahvana Headley @mariadahvana.bsky.social · 4w agoThing about working with famous epics is that they're famous epics for a reason. Tons of people have had opinions about them for millennia. If you're going to work with one, you know your version is going to piss some people off. Even a *sedate* famous epic inflames some of its audience.
I strongly suspect that these posts from @lordbusinessman.bsky.social and @ringworm.bsky.social are not as related as my feed would seem to suggest.

When a student teacher has a rough day in my classroom, I always start the end-of-day debrief with, "Okay, let's talk about the things that went well. We can get to the other stuff later if there's time."

Here's why THAT works. Go in THAT direction." Challenge in getting feedback is that it can cause us to focus so hard on what's wrong we stop seeing what's right

On the other hand, we can absolutely afford to lose another modern Arthur take. T.H. White is still right there, and it's not that big a leap back to the medieval sources from there. (Yes, I read Lawhead as a young man struggling with evangelicalism, and it was... fine, I guess.)

Nathan Goldwag @goldwagnathan.bsky.social · 2mo agoThe big thing I wanted to convey with this was the truly unprecedented scope and scale; both of the Hapsburg/Spanish/Austrian/Portuguese imperial network that emerged in the 16th century and of the series of global conflicts to contain it that were fought for the next hundred years or so.
