Here goes. Shortlist of 40. #5DebutAlbumsSF3
Hi folks, please find to follow the list of 100 albums making up the 3rd semi final of our debut albums competition. Voting commences Friday 14th August, your challenge will be to determine your top 5 in order of preference. In the meantime please use #5DebutAlbumsSF3 to recommend your favourites.
Number 1 This for me is Grams finest hour. While he couldn't fully express himself on Sweetheart Of The Rodeo for various reasons, the shackles were completely off here and he didn't disappoint. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 2 They tweaked the line up with every album but on the first record you could really see the sound system thing. A rapper, singer,dj,graffiti artist all there....and the sampling is off the scale. They became much more studio orientated after this. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 3 The ultimate indie DIY album. I think about 6 people in my class had this record at the time. It's probably sold bucketloads over the years....and it's their only album. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 4 This is genuinely a one of a kind record. Nobody else sounds like them and it never sounds dated. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Ok Top 5. Number 5 Throughout their career they never made a bad album but I think the debut is probably the best of them all. It was a breath of fresh air when it came out. Still is today. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 6 While they were genuinely breaking new ground with this record I think that Fun House is the better and probably the ultimate Stooges album. That's the only reason I can think of for leaving it out of my final 5. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 7 Getting difficult to cut these down now so I'll have to be ruthless. I'm a huge fan of the Spector Wall Of Sound snd and nothing illustrates it better than this record. Ronettes don't get the recognition or respect they deserve. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 8 Got a free copy of this from a friend working in my local Golden Discs when it came out because somebody stole the sleeve. It blew me away then and it's still so good. A very hypnotic record. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Number 9 While it's a good album it took me a while to get into it and I rarely listen to it. Never really took to Bobs solo stuff in the way I took to Grants. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Better late than never counting down from 10 to 5. Number 10 Love this. Such an organic record. No bells and whistles. Sounds like you're in the room with them. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
11 into 10 won't go. While this is a brilliant record it probably paved the way for their take on The Who Sell Out for the 90s. i.e So Tough. I loved the way they brought classic English 60s pop to the dance floor. Won't make the 10 unfortunately. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
This album completely bypassed me first time round and it took me years to appreciate it. Problem was I hate The Fugees but this is something special. It reminds me of a classic early 70s Stevie Wonder album at times. Can't fit it in my final 10 though. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
He was almost like the David Bowie of techno. Always seemed to be ahead of the game and some of his ideas were so bizarre they shouldn't have worked, but they did. Sounds so fresh to this day. Just can't fit it in my final 10. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
While the songs are as good as the other 3 albums it just doesn't hit the spot like the others. It just sounds a bit sterile as if they could have did a bit more. Villiers Terrace used to be an absolute monster live back in the day. I'm leaving this one out. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Down to the final 15 and I've no idea how this will end up. I'll cut it to 10 today and I'll reluctantly start with this....great record still sounds incredible but it won't go any further. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
There's some incredible songs on those two Band albums but there's also quite a few fillers. At this level you need 11 top quality players on the pitch so I'm leaving this one out. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
While I'm a huge Throwing Muses fan the debut isn't their finest as they just got better with every record. It won't make my final 5. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
1966...what an incredible year for music. Here's me in todays Irish Examiner talking about the 10 best albums. www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/ar...

From about 83 onwards post punk started to change into "intelligent pop music"...Prefab Sprout,Blue Nile, The The ect. Had its moments but never my thing. This debut has its moments but won't go any further than final 25. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Rolling Stones trying way too hard to relive the glory days on Foreign Tongues. With the exception of Ringing Hollow,Back In Your Life and Beautiful Delilah this is cringeable. People describing this as classic Stones have obviously never listened to classic Stones.
I think everyone goes through their Doors phase. I had mine in my teens and then just went completely off them. Can only listen to the 1st and last album now. Nothing in between. Needless to say the debut won't make my final 5. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Ok. Time to cut the shortlist from 25 to 20. Didn't think it would be as difficult this time round but it is. I'll start with these 3. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
Took a while but finally a shortlist of 25. #5DebutAlbumsSF2
And we're off again #5DebutAlbumsSF2
