I think this was it, thank you wispy! reposting in case it helps anyone else. I used VLC to convert these to MP4. It was already MP4 but I think the encoding was wrong. I checked the box "add -converted to the end" to make sure it made the change

Oh no! It’s typically good practice to send your files fully to your PC, I don’t think that would work sadly :( It could be the phone’s video encoding possibly? I remember having issues with videos off of my phone not working well on Davinci either :(
