It's a bit of a catch 22 because while it makes a stronger story, the trope also re-enforces an idea of how communication normally works when it shouldn't actually be that way. It makes me wonder how many things in society are based more on media tropes than on reality.

I wish media didn't depend on miscommunication for the sake of storytelling so often because I genuinely think it's made a lot of people unable to communicate in a healthy way
