Pearls before swine (no, not you).

Might not get much public sympathy, but if I was a prisoner the length of whose current jailtime was a national headline and political football for months at a time, I'd be talking to a lawyer about my human rights. #wato

These are nice warm days, and it's understandable you want to play music in your garden, or from your car with the windows down. If you're within half a kilometre of me, simply send me a quick WhatsApp with the tune you want to play, and I'll get back to you fairly promptly if that's going to be ok.

Nothing to do with AOC except the gloss in the post reminded me of it - every other postwar generation will be the one to get the media spotlight, won't it? X squeezed between Boom and Millennial, Z already beginning to look squeezed between Millennial and Alpha.

AOC: Millennials are not punk kids anymore. We're grown adults with mortgages and kids, and that generation is starting to be decisive at the polls. And there is anger at being ignored, having our economic futures mortgaged by the generations that came before us and we're taking the reins

Say Jordan hadn't traded with Saudi Arabia its oilfields South of Aqaba, and hadn't extracted either, and that that easily-accessed reserve of oil had got more and more profitable as reserves elsewhere ran down - Jordan would be at risk, right? 1/2

Have we done anything as a country retrospectively on the fact that within months of leaving office, Liz Truss was and has been visibly not sane? Should we be thinking of measures that can prevent such people taking the highest office (given some democratic process puts them there)?

Understandable that #r4today should cover the passing of a longtime editor, and that presenters who knew him should have generous memories. Also very revealing of how the bigotry cycle works - posh boy Justin in slack-jawed admiration of Liddle, who he takes at his word was a working class hero. 1/2

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

If we're going to be having ethical debates soon hinging on whether particular AI systems are conscious, we need to make sure we're also considering (quickly uncomfortable) questions about continuity of personal identity; which are likely rather closer to the point.

Just pointing out to any rich funders with 5mn burning a hole in their pocket that I, in fact, have genuinely no intentions to enter politics and have absolutely no quid to give pro their quo. So it'd make complete sense to give me the money... for some reason. #wato

I was once nestled with my gf among some rocks by a beach in France on the Western Med. We had had a bottle of cava and watched the sun set till it was dark. There was a small boat far back in the bay, then we noticed darker shapes approaching. Eventually we watched armed soldiers emerge 1/2

"it's actually given me the chance to visit Clacton, and do you know? it turns out it's not actually an irredeemable shithole, and some of the dreadful oiks whose votes I farm turn out to be actual people with lives and concerns and everything."

Kind of a mental line from Farage on why it's so good for him to be fighting the Clacton by-election. Reform shouldn't ever have needed to be seriously fighting Clacton at the next general election if they were remotely on track to be the next opposition, let alone the government?

But Amol, every few days we hear another genocidal act reported, and the report finishes with one of you reading out the IDF's denial. Sometimes they haven't provided one: on those occasions, you tell us instead what you imagine it would be. #r4today

I'd hate to gatekeep and anyway it's above my pay-grade, but by God, cocksure and under-read amateur philosophy is everywhere right now, and maybe it's even what'll kill us.

I'd really be interested in some Argentinian insight into their football team's behaviour after the final whistle last night - what was going on? Seems absolutely psychotic.
