this has never been about player salaries. this is, without a doubt, about ways to increase revenue and valuation. the Dodgers are a scapegoat being used to get fans on their side because, for whatever reason, MLB cares that much about public opinion here

as a labor writer, I would like to note the smaller market teams that don't spend at all but COULD considering every team is valued at over $1 billion minimum. as Craig noted as well, the threat of a lockout also happened BEFORE the Dodgers went on their run. this is all MLB, not the Dodgers
