Holy shit, I agree with Bret Stephens about something!
A few film snaps along @amtrak.com Coast Starlight from Oakland to San Francisco. I made these with the Kodak Ektar H35 half-frame point-and-shoot on Kodak Gold 200, and I’m learning a lot from the little camera. 1/ #35mm #travelphotography #travelbytrain #photography #filmphotography #ishootfilm
Initially read this as '@RonaldReagan senility conference' and thought 'yeah that tracks'
JUST IN: Justice Neil Gorsuch tells @RonaldReagan civility conference US democracy is 'very fragile' & 'facing some tough times.' 'We are all in it together, and if we don't stay all in it together, it will crumble,' Gorsuch says, urging students to study history 'warts and all'
In 2020 I gave money to Bernie and a couple progressive Dems local to me. In return I've had six years of this. I will never give money to a political candidate again unless this stops.
95% of my communications from the Democratic Party look like this. I have never in my life signed up to be texted by a campaign or the party, and I spent fruitless months attempting to unsubscribe from these. These are functionally identical to scam texts.
They are scary if, like many establishment Dems, you value capital above freedom.
being afraid of the DSA is loser shit, sorry. “these progressive ideas are scary!” grow up.
i see it as an expression of the calvinism lodged deep in the american psyche.
And idk to a lot of people that's disappointing? We certainly deserve to have driven ourselves to extinction based on our behavior in some ways. We will not be forced to adapt to a lower energy intensity lifestyle. The power company will install batteries at the local substation and thats that
Nice to see Diana DeGette's campaign PR team landed on their feet.
Colorado's passenger rail project needs voters to approve a tax hike. So it has a new name and cringe brandspeak: "Confident and trustworthy with a fun, lighthearted spirit, CoCo draws its personality from the people, places and unmistakable character of Colorado's Front Range"
I saw Canadian Wildfire Smoke open for Diarrhea Lettuce at Riotfest in 2008
i cannot handle canadian wildfire smoke and the threat of diarrhea lettuce at the same time
The Wall Street Journal and the police both have the same basic function in the US - to protect the interests of capital. That is why you get headlines like this, not because some editor hasn't looked in the mirror.
News organizations should periodically stop and look in the mirror and ask themselves “Have we internalized copspeak to the point that our headlines indistinguishable from police department email subject lines?”
Electoral politics alone won't save us, but AOC/Ossoff 2028 sure would be a nice addition to the ole' anti-fascist toolbox
Ossoff: "The abuses of federal power, the misconduct is unprecedented. That's why Donald Trump so deeply fears his impending losses in these midterms, because he recognizes that when there's a change in the balance of power, there will be real accountability imposed"
“What I loved about Senator Lindsey Graham is that we belonged to the same social class”
I got to know Senator Lindsey Graham traveling with him abroad in Afghanistan and Ukraine. We had just met to renew the fight for our Big Tech bill. Even though we disagreed on much, he was always willing to negotiate, with humor and wit. My heart goes out to his loved ones.
Here is Graham gloating about "killing all the right people." Just in case you see anyone try to do the whole "we should have decency for the dead" nonsense.
After a decade of kid-gloving this fascist bigot, you'll forgive me if I don't have a whole lot of pity for the @nytimes.com getting its turn on the rack.
"The appearance of federal law enforcement agents on the doorstep of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and the press freedom it protects." www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/b...
Every Trump speech is basically him making an unboxing video of a teleprompter
Trump: "These are the banners of the greatest generation. They are the greatest generation. I hate to admit that, but they are."
My Creative Writing 101 prof would have docked me points if I wrote a character who committed fraud and named him "Chadwick Banken" - which is clearly long for "Chad Bank".
Some of Chadwick Banken's customers lost their life’s savings and their homes, unknowingly violating their religious principles in the process. One testified that he ended up homeless and living in his truck.
In other words: centrist dems are choosing capital instead of democracy. The people are being very clear that they want leaders who will choose democracy instead of capital. Centrist dems want to choose capital instead of democracy and they hate the people for not letting them.
Seems the real problem centrist democrats are facing right now is the people are being very clear that they want leaders who will solve their biggest problems, and centrist democrats really don't want to solve their biggest problems and hate the people for wanting that. It's a real pickle for them.
straight to the top 10 on the 'greatest metaphors for America' charts
For some of these, they forgot to 3D print columns I guess. This is just screen printed and flat.
All Democrats have gotten this message. Some are going to choose capital over democracy regardless.
The Republican president of the Utah State Senate lost his 2026 primary because of his support for "AI" Data Centers. UTAH. Democrats, i really really really need you to get this message and get it right now.
Trump is likely seeing the wave of progressive primary victories last night as evidence that his voter-suppression bill will be the only way to mitigate massive Republican losses in November. That's his emergency.
wow -- Trump is crashing out: "Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT"
BREAKING: BUSINESS NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY TO STAY OPEN
One of the strikingly refreshing things about this interview is that @melatkirosco.bsky.social directly answers questions that @kylec.bsky.social asks her. It sounds more like an honest conversation rather than a PR spiel.
Here is my full 35-minute conversation with CO-1 Democratic primary candidate Melat Kiros. The incumbent, Rep Diana DeGette, declined to answer questions from 9NEWS. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvV4...
a gold doubloon for the first man to raise a MUPPET MOBY-DICK
What should have been the third literary adaptation to finish the MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL and MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND trilogy?
This Pride Month, things have gone very badly for the Straits
Vance: "The Straits are now open. The Iranian military is now destroyed." Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz again this morning.
Kids get a free personal pan pizza for reading Milton Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom (1962)"
Pizza Hut is being sold to private equity. Fast food giant Yum! Brands is selling the pizza chain, and all of the locations outside of China will be bought by private equity firm LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion. China locations are being sold to Yum China for $1.2 billion.
Those of you getting upset about this seem to be forgetting one of the seminal confrontations in American history: the great Lincoln-Douglas Cage Matches of 1858.
In front of the Lincoln Memorial. This.
