I see more post chastising parts of the left for ignoring AI. I don't know anyone who is ignoring it. I see people fighting against it and trying to bring attention to the harm it causes. I am very against this characterization that we're all sitting around with our fingers in ears. 1/

I am so thrilled for @abdulelsayed.bsky.social !! He is going to be an amazing senator and I wish CA had someone like him. The amount of Islamophobia that is going to be unleashed- already started- is going to make me sick. Every time that happens, I'm going to make a donation to his campaign.

Maddow calling Sunrise a "radical" organization is all you need to know about how rightwing mainstream media is
MSNBC or whatever it is called now is unwatchable. Truly the worst talking heads (apart from Maddow)
I just have zero patience for a public intellectual IN THIS DECADE, pretending that environmental policy isn’t going to involve politics. Look around. Pay any attention at all. Yes, the 60-second ads will lack the nuance of a white paper. Industry ignores your white papers though.
Three kids in my high school graduating class committed suicide. There were like 200 of us in total.
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com “Wyoming, like other red and rural states, has a problem,” German Lopez writes. “Its suicide rate is about double the national figure.”
Years ago, I worked with Abdul El-Sayed when he was a fellow at Demos and I knew then he'd be in office some day. I'm hoping that day has finally come 🤞
Today, Gaza held one of the largest mass funerals in its history as two Palestinian families buried 112 of their relatives killed in Israel’s genocide. All across Gaza, hundreds of families just like them are still searching for the bodies of their loved ones. 🧵

Nope, nice try. Not doing this to myself. You'll have to kill my ass
I really like this because when you identify emissions as the cause, the solution is clear- end the emissions. When you say the cause is climate change, while true, it takes a minute to get to the solution and you lose people. End fossil fuel emissions, it's clear.
The missing words in the climate conversation are not human-caused climate change, but fossil fuel emissions. By Hayley Fowler and myself: theconversation.com/was-this-hea...

Repeated heatwaves fuel eco-anxiety and anger among youth: 'It feels like we're living in a dystopia'

Do you know what would be better forest management? ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE
This (from the @wsj.com Editorial Board) distills every denialist trope there is: It implies climate change isn’t exacerbating extreme weather. It calls solutions “costly … nostrums.” It fosters doomerism. And it suggests we can just adapt to or “manage” climate impacts. How is this journalism?
This is what I think when friends and comrades tell me AI is inevitable
This is why I give extra side eye to people who use AI that know better. I know they know about this. You're telling the world you couldn't care less how your little vibe code trash gets made. Doesn't affect white people, or me specifically, so it's fine. The most selfish amongst us.

There are few truly wonderful people in the world and we just lost one of them. Sarah was a brilliant thinker and scholar, deeply dedicated to making the world a better place. More than that, she was warm, funny, and brightened the room around her. Her loss is immeasurable. I miss you, friend

Lawmakers across the country are finally starting to recognize some of the risks data centers pose to their constituents. But what should lawmakers require of hyperscalers? What does a good data center policy look like? @climatecabineteducation.org has solutions.
ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.
ICE is surging in the Seattle area. (Map shows activity in the last week) Do you have your whistle with you?
Yeah, see it’s exactly things like this. A totally lack of taking responsibility for his shit. Always someone else’s fault. Really hoping people can get past their need to redeem white men to see this for what it is.
Platner says his decision isn't an admission of guilt. “We’re not doing it because of the allegations, we’re doing it because of the structures that are being taken away from us by those in power.” He says he won't be able to fundraise or run a campaign. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...

Signing an anti-socialist pledge is so embarrassing. Consistent with being a centrist, tbh
We are capitalist, not socialist” More than a dozen Congressional Democrats and other Dems running for office have signed a pledge to uphold centrist policies after the recent surge in progressive wins across the country. They are massively missing the point of what the voters are telling us.
This is wild. 93% of the renewable electricity generation added to the Irish grid over that last decade now powers data centers, rather than reducing fossil fuel use. Data centers have pretty much annihilated the health and climate benefits those renewables could have provided.
What is even more striking is that data centre demand has matched 93% of the growth in renewable electricity generation (wind + solar + hydro) over the past decade. If we measure since 2020, data centre demand has grown nearly 3-times faster than renewable electricity growth.
Finance bros are the same wherever you are in the world (not a compliment)
In addition to all his blood red flags, Planter also polled badly with working class voters. So, again, we have elite and leftist bros claiming to be on the side of the working class while not actually talking to people who are working class.
