Arctic Tern - Cemlyn, Anglesey 09/07/26. Presumed 1st summer / 2nd calendar year bird with plumage type often referred to as 'portlandica'. Usually get a few of these plumage type at the colony. This bird on rocky islets just off beach at high tide.

Western Reef Heron v Little Egret v Grey Heron - WRH less bulky than Little Egret, absolutely dwarfed by Grey Heron plus a further 2 photos from the harbour at Caernarfon 10/06/26. Probably the most 'papped' bird of the decade! #birdingwales

Western Reef Heron - 10/06/26 - at the harbour, Caernarfon. Lucky to have seen the bird on 2 days at Y Foryd, but the harbour offers up far better photo opportunities - hence a 3rd trip. Bird observed feeding on harbour ragworms and shrimps. #ukbirding #birdingwales

Woodchat Shrike - caught up with the bird on Thursday morning shortly after it was found by @johnfjones2101.bsky.social but my photos were poor due to heat haze & distance. Went back yesterday and photo opportunities were a lot better, when bird was in a garden off access road. #birdingwales

Buff-breasted Sandpiper - Tyn Llan seasonal flood, Cemlyn, Anglesey 07/05/26. Another visit in the hope of finding Yellow Wagtails produced this quite unexpected find. I've seen a number on Anglesey & elsewhere during Sept & Oct, but this is my first spring record. #birdingWales

Blue-headed Wagtail - Motacilla flava flava - on field with Highland cattle, Tyn Llan, Cemlyn 06/05/2026. Initially found by Tony White on wet field just north of the lane. Present on the field for just a couple of minutes - managed a few photos - then bird could not be relocated. #birdingWales

Ring Ouzel - female at Mynydd Bodafon, Anglesey 02/05/26. Originally found by David Wright on 28th and again today. In small horse paddock adjacent to and to the south of the lake.

Gwydir Trio - annual visit to the Gwydir forest, Conwy - 21/04/26 for these trio - Common Redstart, Tree Pipit and Pied Flycatcher - all of which are too scarce on Anglesey to catch up with annually. I will leave Wood Warbler for early May - possibly at Hafod Woods which is always worth a visit.

Ashy-headed Wagtail M.f. cinereocapilla (putative) - Cors Ddyga, Anglesey 18/04/26. Initially found by @birdsandbikes.bsky.social, then relocated by myself. Well defined white throat, grey forehead, crown & nape, darker grey ear coverts & lores. Hopefully, a good candidate. #birdingWales #ukbirding

Lesser Scaup - Ellesmere, Shropshire 14/04/26. An overcast and windy day, but good views nonetheless of this vagrant American duck.

Common Sandpiper - Traeth Dulas, Anglesey 13/04/26. Following a couple of wintering birds on the island, there are now a number of reports of spring migrants. This is the first I have had at Traeth Dulas this year. Three Greenshank also present on the estuary.

Ring Ouzel - Hen Borth, Cemlyn, Anglesey 13/04/26. An excellent find by John Dyda. Got there within 30 minutes and the bird showed well at times over the next hour or so. A 2nd bird, plus a Redstart reported from The Range. Only a handful of records of both species each year on Anglesey. #ukbirding

Tundra Bean Geese and Pink-footed Goose - the 4 Tundra Bean Geese at the Alaw estuary had been accompanied by a single Pink-footed Goose. A number of people commented on just how small the PFG looked relative to the TBG - as illustrated by this photo.

Siberian Chiffchaff - spent a few hours last week trying to acquire some photoshop skills to illustrate images for rarity submissions etc. Used an image of a Siberian Chiffchaff from earlier in the year as a subject.

Tundra Bean Goose - 4 on fields on north shore, Alaw estuary, Anglesey 29/03/26. Showing quite a bit of variation in bill length and colouration. Have also been frequenting fields on south shore 28th-30th. Initially found by @keelebirder.bsky.social

Black Grouse - Wrexham area, North Wales 17/03/26. 7 males at a roadside lek. Annual visit involved a 4.30am start to travel across to get there shortly after 6.30am. Plenty of Red Grouse also elsewhere on moor. Until next year ...

Iceland Gull - juvenile, Waterloo lake, Roundhay Park, West Yorkshire 01/03/26. Arrived late, but just enough light to capture a few images. Great opportunity to see this species close up #ukbirding

White-billed Diver - at South Harbour, Blyth, Northumberland 01/03/26. The lure of one at a harbour was too much. After an overnight stay locally, I was delighted that the bird did the decent thing and stayed until the following morning. #ukbirding

Bufflehead - Llyn Coron, Anglesey 09/02/26. Had to drop all plans for the day when Andy Lawrence found a drake Bufflehead at Llyn Coron - presumably the same bird that was at Y Foryd, Caernarfon but which had gone missing. Always a bit distant - but what a new addition for the island.

Cattle Egret - 5 birds were still on fields with horses off the lane to Sandy Beach, near Llanfwrog, Anglesey 02/02/26. A liitle earlier, I had 8 Greater Scaup at Llyn Llygeirian (3m, 1 1st calendar year m, 3f) with subsequent reports of 5+ & 6 birds since. @angbirdnews.bsky.social

Siberian Chiffchaff tristis (putative) at Octel / Amlwch Port water treatment plant this morning 28/01/26. Largely black bill, black legs, strong supercilium, brown ear coverts, green limited to flight feathers. No DNA or sonogram, but many features in its favour. @angbirdnews.bsky.social #ukbirding

Bewick's Swan - still on fields north of Pont Marquis, near Cors Ddyga today 14/01/26. With mixed herd of Whooper & Mute Swans, with 3 Black Swans on fields closer to Cors Ddyga. Three Egyptian Geese in same field as Bewick's, among mixed flock of Greylag & Canada Geese. @angbirdnews.bsky.social

Bufflehead - terrific find by @shr-thing.bsky.social at Foryd Bay, Caernarfon earlier this am and great to catch up with folk on site. Only my 2nd for the UK, after 1 over 20 years ago at Pugney's Country Park, Wakefield, West Yorkshire on the 14/04/04. It needs to get over to Anglesey next😉.
