Saw the Odyssey. Haven't been to the cinema for AGES. Enjoyed it. Was also relieved that my bike was still locked to the bike stand outside three hours later.

I watched a really good sports match that went to overtime earlier on. It was the men's under-20 European handball championships final and it was excellent, Hungary winning by two in the second overtime period against the favourites Sweden. Have not bothered with the bloody football today!
Football: just stop the clock when play stops and then we know how long there is left. Then when the commentators say there's 10 minutes to go there's actually 10 minutes and not six-bloody-teen.
Leaving plane to tube at T4 in under 15 minutes might be a record.
For the last TEN DAYS I've been suffering from a leak coming from the flat TWO FLOORS above mine. My upstairs neighbour's ceiling is disintegrating. Have called council (building freeholder) many times. Today called the emergency line. Patrol officer rocks up an hour later: "I've fixed the leak".
I am working at the rowing club today and just popped down to the café to buy a coffee. Mistimed and ended up with hail in my coffee in a 30-second run up the stairs back to my desk. WTF, it's May!
Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park on a sunny Saturday evening was maybe a bad idea just because of the sheer number of people doing selfies. But the light was good and the flowers pretty, so ...
Why do insects manage to fly into a room through open windows and then invariably fail to find their route out again?
Partook in some local democracy and went to hustings for my ward in the upcoming local elections. We only got Green, Conservative and Labour candidates but it was a pretty good discussion. Mood in room quite anti-Tory. Helpful for my voting choice in a couple of weeks.
After spending quite a lot of money on electricians following the dramatic failure of part of my flat's ancient wiring, I wish I could charge as much per hour as them. I basically need to work for four hours to pay for one hour of electrician. And I'm bloody good at what I do.
Am watching Paris-Roubaix. Men's race over almost 30 minutes and only now are we getting live feed of the women's race. Honestly, it's disgraceful.

As it's Boat Race day, I should share this piece I did for World Rowing this week - a lovely chat with Oxford's six-seat Esther Briz, who after today will pretty much have been there and done it all in rowing. worldrowing.com/2026/04/01/e...
World Rowing - Esther Briz and the “crazy” experience of the Boat Race
At 14:21 UK time on Saturday 4 April, Oxford University will line up against Cambridge University for the 80th Women’s Boat Race. In the six-seat for Oxford is Spaniard Esther Briz Zamorano, adding an...

I think this Paralympic opening ceremony demonstrates why holding a ceremony three hours' drive from your main sporting hub is a Bad Idea, regardless of how pretty your arena is. Barely any athletes at the ceremony is sad.
Have no internet. Relying on two bars of 5G. Rather annoyed with the guy from my ISP talking about "the flat box" to mean the modem. Don't assume your customer is an idiot, companies.
Timeline cleanse thanks to the feathered denizens of the @wwtworldwide.bsky.social London. Very frozen today and rather pretty.

Well, all I can say is that it's a good thing I bought two rolls of puff pastry, or else our beef wellington would have been fillet steak with mushrooms and no pastry. The first roll and transfer to baking sheet was a disaster.
Every year I enjoy scrolling through #DuvetKnowItsChristmas from the luxury of the single bed I slept in as a teenager. No complaints, especially having seen many of this year's entries.
Unbelievably, #DuvetKnowItsChristmas generates such good will on social media that over the years we've raised somewhere approaching a quarter of a million quid for homeless charities. If you can spare a bob or two, sling some to Centrepoint, and here's the link: www.gofundme.com/f/duvet-know...

Group of friends/former colleagues: let's do pre-Christmas drinks. How about Wednesday? Me: *cancels editing shift to attend drinks Group of friends: oh now we have loads of other stuff going on, let's do drinks another time. Me: 🙄 *eyes up lost income sadly
Really fascinating, sobering read, especially from the perspective of a freelancer.

Really not a fan of door-to-door fundraisers. I give fairly regularly to charities that I have a connection with, I'm not likely to make a donation to someone because they arrive at my doorstep and start making small talk without even starting with "are we bothering you?"
