Enjoyed visiting some of our Brooklyn seniors (as well as the great folks who help care for them) alongside @joannesimonbk52.bsky.social to make sure they have a plan to vote. Early voting started today and continues until June 21. Then Election Day is Tuesday, June 23. (1/2)
Two of my bills protecting vulnerable NYers & strengthening transparency have passed both chambers! These bills improve access to info during the eviction process & ensure residents of adult care facilities receive timely notice of closures. On to the Governor!
Mental Health is a major issue facing Teens – but a lawsuit found NY was failing to provide this care to kids on Medicaid. Via a settlement, NYS committed to improving care. BUT the $200M needed to right this wrong wasn’t in the NYS budget. www.timesunion.com/health/artic...
Budget omits youth mental health funds despite settlement
NY’s enacted budget left out the roughly $200 million in youth behavioral health funding sought after the C.K. v. McDonald settlement.

With the Calais ruling, the Supreme Court has further eaten away at voting rights that were fought for and died for. Justice Kagan is right on the money; the decision makes it virtually impossible to demonstrate racial bias in redistricting. www.politico.com/news/2026/04...
Supreme Court limits Voting Rights Act
In a 6-3 ruling, the justices narrowed how a key provision of the Voting Rights Act can be enforced.

The NESE pipeline was rejected TWICE by NYS due to environmental concerns. Expanding fossil fuel infrastructure won't solve high energy costs; it locks us into volatile gas markets shaped by war and instability. We need cleaner, more reliable energy. nystateofpolitics.com/state-of-pol...
Construction of natural gas pipeline miles off Rockaway Peninsula to begin soon
Construction is expected to start this fall and be completed by the end of 2027.

Good news: NY will tax ultra-luxury 2nd homes. TY @governor.ny.gov & @mayor.nyc.gov. This measure targets 2nd homes worth $5M+ & will raise ~$500M yearly, asking the ultra-wealthy to contribute to the city they benefit from. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/n...

Senator Persaud & I looked at gas prices, and they sure do tell a story: Trump’s illegal war in Iran is increasing energy costs. NY’s defense against high prices is our climate law, the CLCPA. ☀️Renewable energy is affordable energy.☀️ @governor.ny.gov Protect the CLCPA
Managed care was supposed to coordinate care & control costs. Instead, it delays payments, adds bureaucracy & pulls time & resources away from the staff providing mental health care. Read ↓ Lauri Cole's op-ed on why NY must move behavioral health out of managed care @governor.ny.gov

"New Yorkers’ bills aren’t rising because of a law that hasn’t been implemented — they’re rising because the oil and natural gas status quo is too expensive." Read ⬇️ @lizkrueger.bsky.social @senatorharckham.bsky.social & Sen. Parker's op-ed on why we need the CLCPA.
Keep N.Y.’s climate law; it is working
The price of natural gas is skyrocketing, something that New Yorkers getting their home heating and electric bills after this winter’s cold snap know all too well. Unaffordable rate hikes have been…

Hundreds rallied today to defend NY and fund our future! From NY4All to taxing the ultra-wealth and corporations to upholding the CLCPA and making polluters pay, NYers are standing united. @governor.ny.gov, stand with New Yorkers.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center nurses have gone over a month without health benefits because the hospital refuses to pay what it owes. Meanwhile, hospital executives made over $8 million in 2024. Tell TBHC leadership: Pay the nurses what you owe and restore their benefits now! bit.ly/tbhc-nurses
Big Oil & gas are trying to dismantle the CLCPA. NY must stay committed to our landmark climate goals. Rising utility costs are driven by maintaining expensive, outdated gas infrastructure, not the CLCPA. ICYMI, read @amdanalevenberg.bsky.social's op-ed: www.cityandstateny.com/opinion/2026...
Opinion: Don’t delay the CLCPA
As tempting as it may be to seek an extension on the 2030 deadline, we should not consider weakening this legislation.

It’s Time to Put Mental Health Care over Insurance Industry Profits. Our proposal improves access to behavioral health care for New Yorkers, allows providers to focus on delivering that care, and saves the state $400M/year. My OpEd w/ Senator Brouk: empirereportnewyork.com/its-time-to-...
During the recent outage, hundreds of Brooklyn residents were left without power for days during freezing temperatures, yet Con Edison has denied multiple reimbursement claims. That’s unacceptable. I joined my colleagues in demanding that Con Edison accept these claims and do right by our community.
After years of ignored warnings about prison brutality, a judge ruled the system failed to protect Robert Brooks. This was not isolated. @governor.ny.gov must remove Comr. Martuscello. Pass the Elder Parole & Earned Time Act & more now. Accountability can't wait.
Thank you, @joannesimonbk52.bsky.social! Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon is a tireless fighter for our community. She has championed laws to prevent gun violence, protect tenants & fight climate change. And she’s a longtime leader for disability justice. Proud to have her support!
It’s outrageous that NYU Langone Health is shutting down gender-affirming care for trans youth. Walking away from patients under political pressure undermines NY’s laws and values. I stand with the LGBTQ+ community & call for an immediate restoration of care. gothamist.com/news/trans-t...

When families pay more for child care than for rent, the system is broken. It’s time for NY to deliver 3-K & Pre-K for every child in the state. We have the momentum, let’s get it done. @ny4childcare.bsky.social @uawregion9a.bsky.social @uft.org @governor.ny.gov @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social
The killing of Renee Nicole Good is a tragic reminder of the danger posed when ICE agents operate w/out transparency, accountability, or oversight. This shooting wasn’t just immoral, it was amoral. No law enforcement agency should be allowed to hide behind a mask or act outside the law.
Every child deserves access to the mental health support they need to thrive in their community. A historic court settlement makes clear that NY must take swift action to fix long-standing gaps in youth mental health services. Read more: www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news...
New York state's mental health services for children to get makeover following lawsuit settlement

I’ve been advocating for congestion pricing for 20+ yrs & the results speak for themselves: less traffic, cleaner air, safer streets & a dedicated funding stream for the MTA. As history has shown repeatedly, once congestion pricing is implemented, skeptics become supporters. surl.li/bdqyon
NYC congestion pricing by the numbers: 27 million fewer cars, $550 million in new revenue
Vehicular traffic into the congestion zone is down 11% compared to last year, with 27 million fewer vehicles traveling the streets, an average of 73,000 fewer per day.
