Just had a wonderful week cruising the Seine on the MS Jane Austen. Stop-offs: Les Andelys, Rouen, Aromanches/Normandy beaches, Honfleur, Giverny & Bizy Castle, Monet's House & Gardens, Paris. Great food, wine and company. Magnificent.
This is sad news. Gerry was a UTV legend. His Friday night show had an amazing roster of guests but he was as good with the public as he was with famous people. And he helped bring Trad music to a mainstream UTV audience too.

My friend Jimmy Ellis was great in Z Cars but he also had a stellar career in many other productions and a talent as a writer of poetry, fiction and memoir. Domestic Flight was one of his books.

I missed this anniversary. We lost the magnificent Leo McKern on 23 July at 82 in 2002. When I was researching Stephen Boyd, he sent me this lovely letter. He was brilliant as Rumpole and had a stellar career in theatre, film and television.
Isn't it interesting/depressing that governments can tax us and then spend that money on nothing that will improve the cost of living. US (militarily), especially and UK following suit. Politics is the massive stain on the underpants of the modern world.

I would also add that was a clear attempt to rehabilitate Whitehouse by some gender critical feminists a few years ago, and I think we can see why. We can very much see these arguments put forward by figures like Louise Perry re the sexual revolution

I've not been to a cinema since 2019. A lot of it is to do with films on offer. A lot is to do with audience whispering, phone checking, rustling sweet papers and, I kid you not, sitting next to a person who plonked herself by me in a near-empty cinema, proceeding to eat a curry-smelling sandwich.
RIP Edward Stourton. I read his splendid book, Auntie's War, and sent him a letter. He replied: "The BBC postal system is not very efficient, and your kind letter has only just reached me. I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed the book, and it was very good of you to let me know." Regards, Edward S.
