I am curious what political cleavages are gonna emerge between the young/old as our population ages. Housing is the big one I think of, where older homeowners block new construction or vote to freeze property taxes as they don’t feel an obligation to the young.
Still think the most like Senate result is Marshal wins like 51% to Hamilton’s 46%. So like 10 points closer than this race should be
Kansas Senate poll (Co/efficent) 🔴Roger Marshall 49% 🔵Adam Hamilton 44% 9/8-9/10 battlegrounds.coefficient.org
I love that Kansas occasionally has a Senate race that looks kinda close before all the quiet conservatives break for the GOP on Election Day. Maybe that won’t happen this time. I think Hamilton might manage to win 45% of the vote instead of the typical 41% a Dem wins
Kansas - Senate Polling: 🔵Hamilton: 44% 🔴Marshall: 43%* ⚪️Graham: 5% GSG / Aug 16, 2026 (Current Model Result In KS-SEN is GOP 51% - DEM 43%) usapolling.substack.com/p/democrats-...
I do love the idea of GTA 6 developing a quasi situationship simulator lmao
Holy shit, they're trying to teach incels how to talk to women
Law school as a coping mechanism to fill the void of not knowing want to do with my life (bad idea i know)
One of the most deranged sections of internet discourse I occasionally run into are the people who have intense debate over whether men and women can be friends. Just be normal! Very easy to be friends if you follow that simple rule.
personally, as a straight man, I quite like women. I think they're pretty neat.
I continue thinking one version of the Bad Future (20 years or so from now) is Democratic lead states eventually endorsing a form of quasi-nullification to get around an aggressive, sectarian, far-right, and ineffecitve Federal government trying to force its will on them.
To paraphrase @diplomatofnight.com on another issue, they reason they act like they have total impunity is that they have always been given total impunity. It is an entirely rational decision to treat their opponents with contempt, because their opponents have contempt for themselves.
Does the NYT publish any essays about the numerous state schools that have extensive agricultural programs? My small public school had a full farm with cattle, chickens, horses, and pigs
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com The problem on college campuses is not just that students lack civility, Michal Leibowitz writes, but that “our college education does almost nothing to develop the sense that what we do in our day-to-day lives resonates with people beyond ourselves.”
Bush '08 numbers speedrun Hope he gets down to 29% in November so we can see what the bottom falling out looks like
There's no other way to say it: This AP-NORC poll is atrocious for Trump. – Overall: 33-67 – Immigration: 40-59 – Iran: 32-67 – Economy: 30-70 – Cost of living: 23(!)-76 37% of Republicans disapprove of his handling of the economy, 47% disapprove on cost of living. apnorc.org/projects/few...
Lowkey if they face a total blowout (Dems gain 10+ in the Senate and 50+ in the House) then I could honestly see there being 10 R votes in the Senate for conviction if he’s impeached
I honestly have a hard time believing he’s going to make it to the end of his presidency at this rate
Ft. Scott, Brown v. Board Museum, and some pioneer town I do not remember the name or location of Oh and the Cosmosphere - single coolest place in the entire state of Kansas
www.stlmag.com/news/police-... This is absolutely unhinged behavior on the part of the State Board
Police Board budget demand goes from ‘crippling’ to ‘catastrophic,’ mayor says
Last week, Mayor Cara Spencer had a disagreement with the rest of the Board of Police Commissioners, to the tune of as much as $72 million. But since then, the parties have only gotten further apart. ...

Missouri has basically engineered a giant budget crisis in both KC and STL by forcing them to fund their state-controlled police departments at absurd levels
March 2026 rapidly turning into the March 2020 of Trump's Second Term No Steve Mnuchin or WARP Speed or Democratic House to save us this time though.
Really need to see the Kansas GOP get blown out in November
I do find it funny whenever a tech oligarch is like "yeah we're just going to destroy the white collar middle class in this country" and doesn't stop for two seconds to think about The Implications of such a revolution
i feel comfortable saying that, if as the author suggests, up to 30% of white collar workers lose their jobs in the next 12-18 months, no one can actually predict what the worst case will be, the economic and political conditions will be worse than anything anyone alive has ever seen in this country
Bad for me as a graduate looking for a job, but at least November 3 will be cathartic as fuck Hope the GOP does not take office at the national level again until I’m in my 40s
they said it couldn't be done, folks, big strong men with tears in their eyes, they came up to me and said "no president could completely wreck an entire united states economy twice", they said "no one's ever put more people out of work than you"
Yeah this is why I think the risk of a cool zone moment post-election are increasingly. They’re in a deeply radicalized ideological bubble that does not believe legitimate liberals/leftists exist. Some of these guys seem eager for an American Tlatelolco to occur.
repression -> more unpopular imagery -> more people on the streets -> more repression + internal regime radicalization
I enjoy living in one of the only places in Kansas with large hills which makes driving in my sedan during snowy conditions very fun (lol lmao lol).
“Military conquest has been the Law of Nations since the dawn of time and how we should conduct ourselves. It ended so well after WWII.”
I do think one possible, but also very bad, outcome of this is a legitimate quasi-breakdown of the Union over the course of 25-50 years or so that sees state’s exert greater levels of authority as the Federal government becomes increasingly unstable
Yeah even if we get out if it this time I’m not quite sure how we deal with the fact that 30% of the population and 23 states seem hell-bent on dragging the whole Union down a reactionary path. They simply will not leave California, Minnesota, and New York alone as they desire to extend control
Trump has the unique ability to engineer incredible backlash by the sheer force of just asshole governance And this time around it’s 100% more intense, cruel, and unhinged
i feel like people have memoryholed the 2018 midterms entirely
Really do wish we had some mechanism for a Special Presidential Election rip
We’re like 2-4 bad decisions away from discovering if “Presidential Breakdown” in the US is possible and I’m not looking forward to that.
I think one of my greatest moments in undergrad was when I emailed Eric Foner about how much I loved Reconstruction and he replied 5 minutes later. It was awesome
Building off of this, I kinda think Obama might be remembered in a mythical Kennedyish way among our generation. The last "Great President" before this country went off the deep end of right-wing authoritarianism. His flaws paved over as, compared to what came after, he was a saint
I think two big things shaping my political orientation as someone whose life experience with politics has been dominated by Donald Trump. 1. An intense disgust towards populism/anti-expert sentiment of any kind. 2. General intense partisanship due to the GOP's descent into authoritarianism
I beat this dead horse a lot, but I am quite worried about what public education is going to look like in Red States in 20 years plus the knock on effects of their systems decaying. Will there be quite meaningful quality of life differences between Blue and Red states in the coming decades?
I don’t really have a lot to say about the OU thing except 1) it’s obviously about the trans instructor and 2) red state publics are all so, so vulnerable to this
I do not think there is an Administration in modern history that misunderstood why they were elected or their own coalition more than this one. We're at Bush '07 numbers and the bottom hasn't even fallen out yet!
New Gallup poll shows Trump's approval hit a new low for his second term: -36% approve -60% disapprove His approval among Republicans went from 91% in January to 84% in November news.gallup.com/poll/699221/...
Gotta say they honestly deserve an award to get down to Bush ‘07 approvals before things have really blown up economically Thermostatic backlash going to hit this admin like a hydrogen bomb
👀 those Republican approvals
