@jamesrmccallum1.bsky.social I liked this snap as it reminded me of that alchemy of birds, light and water in your paintings, especially at migration time.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social The busiest trap for months- maybe 300+. NFG clay triple lines, the 3rd tawny wave, the first swallow prominent for a while and an oddly timed scorched wing. #teammoth #norfolkmoths
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social 94/30 last night. NFY: wax moth and tree lichen beauty. Also, a treble lines which looked smaller but couldn’t be identified as lesser, a knot grass for the patterning and a light emerald because it offered some colour! #teammoth #norfolkmoths
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social @mothiduk.bsky.social @davidnorgate.bsky.social Any chance this might be a lesser treble bar?
@norwichbirder.bsky.social ObsID tells me this is the fat-palped tachina and is a relatively rare insect? In my Syderstone garden today.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social Many more moths last night but largely acres of turnips and flights of darts. Pick of the trap were: NFG tawny barred angle, NFY vestal, dark spinach and coronet. #teammoth
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social Earlier this week, same story of numbers well down but interesting arrivals.NFG narrow-winged pug, NFY poplar grey and yellow-barred brindle.Only second (off the top of my head) yellow shell this year.Mind you,we are the parish never to have recorded garden tiger. #teammoth
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social On 2/8 another low count: 43/18. Best were NFY iron prominent (always sounds like an official title in Game of Thrones)and straw underwing, NFG roseate marble and 7th scorched carpet of the year.
@norfolknats.bsky.social Apparently fewer than 400 UK records of the Queen of Spain fritillary in 300 years. One today at NWT Ringstead Downs. There have been up to three.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social Slim pickings in the trap again last night. Canary-shouldered thorn the only NFY.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social After none in the trap since 17/7, four species on 28th: currant, double-striped, tawny speckled and wormwood. #teammoth #norfolkmoths
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social Three traps this last week. Not vintage. Favourites: 2nd tawny wave, NFY orange swift, smartest silver Y by a country mile (4th), treble bar (2nd?). #teammoth
Bloomers and I went twitching into Suffolk today. Hudsonian Godwit at Cattawade. Long way from home - all of us!
@norfolknats.bsky.social Black darters and keeled skimmers at Dersingham Bog.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social @davidnorgate.bsky.social @mothiduk.bsky.social Help, please. This comes up as hoary footman on ObsID. Scarce? Thank you. The photos could be two moths, one in the trap and one (jarred) seen later on vegetation.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social @mothiduk.bsky.social @davidnorgate.bsky.social This came up 99% dark mottled willow (only 9 uk records!). I’m guessing it’s a small mottled willow. Any help gratefully received. Thank you.
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social @davidnorgate.bsky.social What do you think about this for a Svensson’s, please?
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social A bit of a bleached and bare trap last night. 65/25. Best: NFY dusky thorn with its cartoon chicken face, and marbled clover (best year - 6 so far), pale prominent, pine hawk (3 so far this year after a 3 year gap), dusky sallow, wormwood pug.
