My walks along the Wessex Ridgeway introduced me to Devizes, the Kennet & Avon Canal & in particular the Caen Hill Locks. 29 locks rise 237 ft over 2 miles. Photos cover locks 29 to 44. What a beautiful sight! The K&A Canal Walk beckons next for me! Reading to Bristol & on to Avonmouth (maybe!)

Whilst the start/finish of the #ThamesPath is bone dry for much of the year, here's a video I made in 2003 showing that it isn't always like this! Stage 10 of my #ThamesPath Sea to Source walk between Newbridge & Lechlade on what was a gorgeous day with loads of people out on the river & walking the trail. Saw 2 families of swans with 7 cygnets in total which was encouraging 😀. Many thanks to the volunteers who keep the grass etc in check 👏👏👏.

Marsh Lock Horsebridge at Henley. Closed beyond the lock since May 2022. A great loss to the residents of Shiplake and the #ThamesPath. This wonderful bridge must be renovated. If it helps make this happen sooner rather than later, then I'm happy to chip in via the proposed crowd funding

Before the next heatwave I squeezed in another 3 sections of the #ThamesPath this week - Teddington to Windsor, Windsor to Henley & Henley to Goring. That's 70 miles officially. Nice weather for getting the drone up 1/3

Monday's walk along the #ThamesPath from London Bridge to Teddington Lock taking in all the currently completed Tideway riverside public space sites. I didn't know before but at Lots Road Power Station development you're able to look up 1 of the chimneys - nice touch 1/2

I passed these guys yesterday who were just finishing the #LandAid #ThamesPath Source to Sea non-stop relay race raising money to help young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Teams had to finish in less than 2 days starting on Wednesday evening Well done everyone!

20 mile 3rd stage of my Sea to Source walk along the Thames from Erith to London Bridge yesterday on what was a rather warm day! At Woolwich Foot Tunnel the slightly 'edgy' but nonetheless interesting ECP section came to an end & the #ThamesPath 'proper' took over. Glorious day! 1/2

Continuing towards London alongside the #Thames with another 17 miles from Gravesend to Erith. The walk includes a 5½ mile 'detour' along the Rivers Darent & Cray to be able to get to the other side of the mouth of the Darent at the Dartford Creek Barrier - there's just no getting round it!

If you want to avoid the summer crowds along the #Thames I highly recommend this 22 mile walk along the England Coast Path extension from the Isle of Grain in North Kent to Gravesend!

Yesterday the #ThamesPath 30th Anniversary Source to Woolwich Relay began with a short walk to Ashton Keynes. Seen off by Dame Fiona Reynolds, High Sheriff of Gloucestershire (who did most of the walk) & local MP Roz Savage. Lot of fun! Future legs here - nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/trails...

The Icknield Way passes through the village of Linton in Cambridgeshire. I missed its most wonderful piece of engineering when I walked the trail last year, so I had to return. I give you the Linton Clapper Stile! A Grade II Listed Monument & 1 of just a few such stiles remaining in the UK!

Looking down at Coney’s Castle from Lambert’s Castle Hill. It’s behind the pylon & mostly hidden by the tree covering. It’s a much smaller Iron Age hillfort than Lambert’s. The woodland along the ramparts are covered with bluebells in springtime. #WessexRidgeway #GreatChalkWay #Bluebells

Lambert’s Castle Hill 846 feet high overlooking topped by an Iron Age hill fort that is around 2,500 years old. The hilltop was used as a racecourse at some stage and was also the site of a fair for over 200 years until 1947. Fabulous 360° views. #WessexRidgeway #GreatChalkWay

The very pretty village of Ashmore along the route of the Wessex Ridgeway is the highest village in Dorset. At this time of year, the nearby Ashmore Wood provides a spectacular display of bluebells. Photos can never fully do it justice! #WessexRidgeway #GreatChalkWay #bluebells
