People in the US always are surprised when I remind them that the first vice president to address global warming was not Al Gore. The first candidate was a republican. The first president was a republican. Let's go to the videotape!

The White House Effect is a great documentary and stark wakeup to the Trump and Republicans ignorant and evil delusion in promoting fossil fuels as Earth rapidly warms and catastrophes proliferate.

Amazing piece on the nature of climate change denial. Less made by bad actors driven by greed, and more made of our individual and collective mind struggling cope with the horror of the climate crisis. The good thing is that action is not only needed, but also possible and, above all, desirable.

A thought about #AI; some are programmed to be user-affirming. Some may be programmed to generate traffic by being 'challenging' (like Meta's algorithm to keep users on line). Will malevolent (divisive) AIs become more profitable/popular? Will it be like #media with alternative realities?

People wonder how humans could possibly have built the pyramids (example) but we are watching scientific literacy being lost in real time. Recurring #darkages are a pattern throughout humanity when knowledge *reserved for the powerful* becomes a threat to their continued dominance.

US child vaccination rates have plunged since before the pandemic, with kindergarten classrooms in more than 70% of counties now lacking herd immunity against measles.

US choropleth map showing percentage change in MMR or overall vaccination rates since before the pandemic, by county. Decreases are shown in pink, increases in green.

Evidence is all around that GOVERNANCE is most important to have when building a #sustainable company, organization or country. Without systems & accountability it relies on individuals making 'right' decisions. We are seeing just how those 'guardrails' that rely on tacit agreement can fail.

The future is clear. US government policy is a mistake. US automakers taking the short-term view is ... suicide. They ignored quality and safety ... were bailed out. They ignored economy, and needed rescuing again. No taxpayer funded bailout this time. Time for economics to win over politics.

This is what makes Trump’s attacks on EVs so stupid. To salvage a failing industry that happens to include his big crooked donors, he’s sabotaging America’s auto industry in international competition. Everything else aside, EVs are just better vehicles. www.eenews.net/articles/dri...

#Reporting is step, not the result. It is beginning of 'measuring what matters' when it is taken seriously as business intelligence. I know a company that anually submitted same data to CDP (checking the box). They failed to manage topics that they acknowledged were material to their success.

One day we will just call it "business." Using separate language, issuing separate reports, acronyms, and even using the traditional language to mean something else ('materiality') all contribute to the idea that what we are doing is separate, apart & distinct from the business of business.

His moral leadership is sadly lacking today. I don't suggest 27 years incarceration as a prerequisite for public service, but it certainly contributed to Mandela's wisdom and temperament.

This day in 1918 Nelson #Mandela was born. A promising career as a lawyer was cut short and he spent 27 years in jail before becoming South Africa’s first democratic president. Here is my #poem: He Lived Among Us A Tribute to Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) www.waynevisser.com/poetry/he-li...
