We have left Maddalena Island and made the 3 hour drive to Alghero on the north west coast. Our accommodation is great, its a villa in an olive farm. The last photo is off the roof top terrace. They also have some animals including a goat, sheep, donkey, cats, chicken and a dog.

We have moved further north in Sardinia and today arrived at the quaintest & cutest town we've seen in Sardinia - San Pantaleo. It's on the Costa Smeralda, but instead of being on the coast with the ultra rich and their mega yachts, we are up in the hills in a town founded by goat herders and its 🤩

I've been quietly fascinated by these trees that literally grow out of rocks in the limestone mountains of Sardinia. Of course I have seen many trees grow on and around rocks - but these guys literally look to be bursting out of rocks, splitting the rocks. Fabulous.

So let me tell you how I came to have so many grapes. After our steep and rocky hike today in rural Sardinia, we were only 5 minutes into our 40 minute drive back when we suffered a flat tyre. No worries we thought, I'll get out the sealant spray and pump and off we go. Cont'd ⤵️

This afternoon we went to the Grotta del Bue Marino (Sea Ox Cave) just outside Cala Gonone. It's a massive cave system that extends through the limestone coast for over 70km. You catch a boat in and then have a guided walk in for the first 1km and return. It was really quite beautiful.

The 13th century Castello Scaligero in Sirmione on Lake Garda is a real beauty. On the narrowest point of the Sirmione pennisula with imposing fortifications, multiple draw bridges, and a walled harbour, it must have been quite the statement of power. Here are a few shots of and feom the castle.

Riva del Garda sits on the northern end of Italy's largest lake, Lake Garda. Its waterways and venetian architecture surrounded by soaring mountains and mountain top towns it's part Riviera and part Dolomites, but all charm! After a week in the mountains it was nice to change out of hiking clothes!

Most people know what budgies (budgerigars) are. But did you know they are a native Australian parrot? They live in flocks of up 100, but under certain conditions can form super flocks of tens of thousands of birds It's beautiful to see them in the wild instead of the tiny cages people keep them in

A bit over a week ago, I had a very good time wandering around a farmer's paddock (with permission) in the southern Flinders Ranges with @boyfrombruce.bsky.social watching the budgies zooming about. Such a thrilling experience!

I have driven in the vast majority of countries that we have ever visited (the exceptions are pretty much just China and African countries). The Italians in my opinion and experience are the absolute worst drivers 😅
