I joined a skating community (cult) and I'm afraid this is my entire personality now
spent a week worrying that Dan Sperber would come to my talk and tell me he already made the same arguments 20 years ago and I somehow missed it only to have Ray Jackendoff randomly show up and do the same 😂😭 (he was very kind about it 😊)
gonna be walking by this every day for the next month+ -- friends, hit me up if you're in Vienna!!
I don’t know what language of thought means anymore and I’m too afraid to ask
the way I've ignored an easy revision to chill reviewer requests for like 6 months but will stay up all night analyzing brand new data ...
the number of times I say every week: unionizing is not, in and of itself, the end goal!!!
niche enjoyment I get from telling one piece fans that I've religiously kept up with one piece lore/analysis/updates/theories for like 10 years without having watched or read a single chapter of the manga/anime
proud of my old postdoc union at princeton getting our min salary raised from $54k to $65k in 2023 to now starting bargaining with a $95k proposal... what a power move 🤭
They double-booked a room for the "Healthy, Wise, Wealthy, Decision Making" and "Moral Machines" sessions at SPSP, but @williambrady.bsky.social exercised some masterful (& healthy & wise & moral & wealthy?) negotiation skills and we're now getting two sessions of talks in one 😊
this is my first SPSP and uh... I think it's my favorite conference now, wth
I sometimes dismiss Jane McAlevey as for newbies but then I do something stupid and hear her whisper "tsk tsk, no shortcuts" and it's like damn it yes you're right
one of my favorite things about running my own lab is that I get to ban overhead lights
excited to see ~300 faculty at this multi-day AAUP organizing training!!!
fun whiplash seeing linguistics mentioned in my dc metro feed (which one of you assigned this??)
I can't find my adhd meds bc I can't find my glasses and I can't find my glasses bc I didn't take my meds
the real civic education I need universities to give people (faculty included) is that there are a hundred different ways to implement governance & decision making and that elections + townhalls + committees doesn't automatically equal democracy!!!!
I wish someone had given me permission to be unhinged way earlier in life, but I'm happy I'm here now
sometimes I worry I'll become desensitized and the rage will peter out. but not yet. nowhere near
omg I somehow got CENTER STAGE tickets to BTS in Baltimore I'm in shock
TOPA has many flaws but god DC tenant laws are so great, every other person I meet is like "when my building went through TOPA I became bffs with all of my neighbors and we set up our own systems for pet sitting, childcare, rent negotiations etc"
what's happening on the other site is making me feel kinda hopeful
oh the psychological effects of very likely but not guaranteed conference deadline extensions (thank you SPP)
