one of many reasons why insisting Israel tricked the US into this or is operating it like a puppet is not only antisemitic but also stupid analysis that gets in the way of understanding what's happening and taking action.

all the shock and horror at the vulgar barking of trump and hegseth overshadows the fact that the foreign policy blob has been hungering for the Iran war for decades and now they've got it

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today. This could be you.

Distraught woman says ICE killed her wife in video after deadly Minneapolis shooting
"They killed my wife," the distraught woman says, adding, "They shot her in the head."
An ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman who was driving an SUV in Minneapolis on Wednesday. / Screenshot/@Breaking911"They killed my wife. I don't know what to do," the woman says through sobs in the footage, with a damaged SUV visible in the distance behind her. "We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head," the woman cries.
"We have a six-year-old at school," she says, almost unable to breathe, as a chaotic scene in which federal officers prevented at least one doctor who was on the scene from assisting the shot victim unfolds. "We're new here," the distraught woman says in despair.

Human Geography at Leicester is facing closure. Staff contracts are to end in June 2026; students are to be relocated to other universities, or taught out by a maximum of two (!) teaching-only staff. Other departments and subjects are facing closure, too. Please join the demo!

Your weekly reminder that voter "concern" with immigration doesn't correspond to actual immigration levels. It corresponds to the amount of coverage the media gives immigration. This an entirely self-fulfilling mess, and it is entirely pointless.

I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

Seeing yet more stories of unis moving to compulsory redundancy, with Geography colleagues (and of course others) at risk. Today, it's Newcastle Uni, a department that produces incredible scholarship with a vibrant culture. Sharing in solidarity x www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...

This. An emergency recall of parliament on a weekend for British Steel. Nothing at all for UK HE which employs far more people, has already shed 10,000 academic jobs, with several institutions on the brink of collapse. A reminder: we train all the doctors, teachers, engineers, nurses, lawyers &c &c

British Steel employs 3.6k people. Coventry Uni group, which auditors say may not survive, employs 7.7k. But there is an emergency debate in parliament for British Steel and nothing for the whole HE sector imploding

Tuesday we’ll be out again. People keep telling us how angry and upset they are, how they don’t understand that there is ZERO movement, and wonder how much management even care. People are done, students are done, management need to stop these damaging cuts NOW.
