Highlight of last night's trap was this Striped Hawkmoth which I released this evening only for it to hang around and fuel up in the garden 😍 VC15 #teammoth #mothsmatter
32 species in the moth trap this morning, highlights included 4 scarce prominent, water carpet, 2 pine beauty and a nice fresh M. nitidalis. #teammoth #mothsmatter
Two very welcome individuals in the trap this morning in the form A. catalaunalis and D. ramburialis VC15 #teammoth
A record 72 Four Spotted Footman in the trap this morning following less than favourable conditions overnight. Certainly established locally! VC15 #teammoth
Dordogne... Two acres of grassland, untouched and full of knapweed, absolutely crammed with butterflies. Walking through produced clouds of fritillaries, yellows, blues and browns. The connected habitats and lack of human interaction makes for a hugely biodiverse space that is refreshing to see.
A few more less striking but equally exciting (from a moth-ers point of view) catches from my time in France. #teammoth #mothsmatter
Moth trapping with a black light in France (Le Mans & Dordogne) recently has produced some amazing species that I would love to see in my home trap! #teammoth #mothsmatter
Although common here in my garden, it's always nice to see these two colourful micros: Y. dentella and C. pinella. VC15 #mothsmatter
One of two presumed migrant C. amplana caught over night. Other migrants included 3 silver y, Small Mottled Willow and 4 N. noctuella. VC15 #mothsmatter
Lesser-Spotted Pinion was the highlight amongst 92sp over night. Possibly the first I've ever knowingly seen. Also of note: 3x Light Crimson Underwing, Olive Crescent, Jersey Tiger and Dusky Hook-tip. VC15 #mothsmatter
Just rescued this Large Tortoishell from my garage window, surrounded by spiderwebs! VC15 @savebutterflies.bsky.social
Thought I'd jump on the bluesky wagon and open my account with this cracking Clouded Magpie caught last night on a misty, moonlit site near Orlestone. #mothsmatter #teammoth
