The most surprising thing about the Madison police shooting is that the department doesn’t require body cameras. I didn’t think there were many departments this size left without them. It means one of the most important pieces of evidence in this investigation simply doesn’t exist.

This op-ed is a few weeks old, but what a ridiculous premise. The idea that anyone covering gun violence is afraid to use the term "shooter" or avoids the fact that the issue disproportionately impacts young Black men can only come from a willfully ignorant perspective.

They aren't claiming the officer feared for his life, but "feared for public safety" when Guerrero attempted to flee. But he was not the target of the warrant. Which means they had no reason to think he was dangerous. Fleeing an immigration stop does not make you a threat to public safety.

This will be an investigation worth watching. Fatal police shootings often raise questions about transparency. It'll be interesting to see how that changes when the shooters are federal troops operating alongside local police. My guess is we'll learn very little.
