Preferred candidates: - Experience with deep learning models or theoretical machine learning. Not looking for computational biologists for these positions - We are looking exclusively for those who are ready to come to Singapore - Those interested in creating biotech startups are more than welcome

AI in biology must be experimentally verifiable, and that requires wet labs. @astar_gis is hiring pre- and postdocs with proven AI knowledge to build foundation models for RNA therapeutics: mRNA vaccines/drugs, gene editing, ribozymes and in vivo CAR-T. Singapore-based. DM me and please repost.

Has Mark Zuckerberg finally lost it? It started with metaverse obsession that was going on for a couple of years and a couple of billions of dollars. Then came mass hiring, followed by the first out of many mass layoffs. Than he brought Scale.ai guy to lead AI in Meta.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that the only thing that matters for energy independence is material science and biotech. Any county that is serious about energy independence should invest into these sectors heavily.

Over which important details am I glossing over when I say that the tension between people who don't want to fight inequality (*) and the people who do is mostly about exploit vs. explore and short-term vs. long-term rewards?

I sometimes wonder if people in the "dark ages" knew they lived in "dark ages", and if our descendants will think that we live in an "dark age". I feel we live in a strage mixture of progress of technology and looming society collapse due to concentration of power into ...

EU should declare that English is a second official language in all member states. It's not like Balzac, Göthe or Cervantes will turn in their graves if you allow me to ask questions and find answers about how cross-country pension insurance works, and what I need to provide and to whom in English.

"To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself". Just a random quote from "Art of war" that I remembered when I heard about FAIR layoffs.

Are there any works that explore curriculum learning in an unsupervised setting? Does the notion of Y is easier to learn if you first learn X happen automatically in auto-regressive modelling, or diffusion models or any other generative modelling approach?

I think people (who use this term) mean "constraining the model by constraining hyperparameters", while "ordinary" (non-inductive?) bias means "constraining the model by constraining parameters", but 🤷🏻‍♂️

Which ideas in computer science don't do better with faster computers? And what is a "human inductive bias?" (I never know what anyone means by "inductive bias." It is a term that defies definition.)

Many of society’s problems would be solved if we decided to treat greed as a mental illness. Greed is not good: it’s just easy. There are many other things that “clarify and cut through” and it’s easy to sell that greed “captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit”, but it really doesn’t.
