White Sox lose to the Pirates, 9-3. Sean Burke didn’t have it. The offense didn’t have a baserunner until the fifth. The division lead shrank to two games. My mom brought her dog to the park. Sox are 75-69.

Will the offseason be extension season for White Sox, Munetaka Murakami and Will Venable?
Murakami injected life into an anonymous and sputtering franchise, and Venable has been credited with nurturing young players and creating an atmosphere conducive to success.

The start of Will Venable’s postgame session was about Luis Castillo
White Sox lose to the Astros, 6-2 Luis Castillo was rocked again. The Sox now average 3.85 runs per game in day games, and clinched a losing road trip. Sox are 73-67. Barring a comeback in Cleveland, they'll return home still up three games in the AL Central.
Luis Castillo: 4 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 48 of 78 pitches for strikes, 22% called strikes/whiffs. Fifth time in six starts with the Sox where he's gone less than five innings, and allowed four or more runs.
The White Sox took BP on the field this morning, despite it being the last day of a seven-game road trip. Their absurd splits between night games (.760 OPS) and day games (.675 OPS) inspired a change in routine. chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/20...

Will Venable discusses White Sox baserunning from tonight’s eighth inning.
White Sox lose to the Astros, 2-0 Even with just three hits on the night, the Sox left runs on the table in a mistake-ridden eighth. A rare Chase Meidroth error and two-strike HBP from Sean Newcomb aided an Astros' rally in the bottom half of the inning. Sox are 73-66.
Davis Martin: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 55 of 80 pitches for strikes, 24% called strikes/whiffs. Not overpowering, but suppressed damage like the days of old and wriggled out of a big fourth-inning jam. He lowered his ERA to 4.13.
“I’m really confident I’m going to find it and I’m going to be a key piece down the stretch," Davis Martin said after his last start. His first opportunity to show it comes tonight. chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/20...
