A member of my team gave me a card and this pen, wishing me well as I move to Moon Base. But, can I really be a humble genius if I have a pen that calls me humble genius? I feel like the pen negates the concept.

Yellow pen with white lettering that reads Humble Genius At Work.

Couple weeks ago, I got tired of wrestling/struggling with my 3D printer and decided to buy a new one. There’s been a definite technological leap. Multi-color, high-speed, better precision prints are just amazing.

We had our formal post-flight engineering assessment for Artemis II yesterday. Big difference between Artemis I and II. Coming out of I, we had several major investigations, the heat shield being the top item that would take a couple years of effort to resolve.

Even though I’m still closing out my Orion work, I’ve already picked up my first Moon Base assignments. First up - sort out mating of Moon Base modules on the lunar surface. Since we’ve got different modules being built by different partner countries…

Some personal career news - in about 4 weeks I’ll be transitioning from Orion to our new Moon Base Program as a Moon Base Habitation Office Technical Lead. Our office is responsible for all the habitable elements on the lunar surface. My role is to help address issues that span across elements.

The cat has decided that the curl support for my little home gym is his favorite toy. He likes to try and drag the whole thing into middle daughter’s room. It’s his den.

The underside of a black padded attachment, torn to shit by hundreds of tiny claws.

We’re changing the design of the Orion windows on Artemis III, so to characterize how they’ll do if we get hit by a piece of orbital debris, over the next few weeks our team is going to shoot some 3.3 mm diameter particles at the windows panes at ~15k mph. Some teams have more fun than others.

You can make a hobby out of collecting different Orion team logos. BFS - Backup Flight Software OCSS - Orion Crew Survival System 205U4 - Flight Software Load 205 Update 4 Orion Flywheel - uh…Orion Flywheel (exercise device)

4 logos shown
Top left - Snoopy riding an SLS rocket in front of a gray moon with a planted American flag on top and text 205U4 at the bottom
Top right - Orion BFS button with a wireframe Orion capsule on a blu background with stars, including the 3 stars of Orion’s Belt.
Bottom left - OCSS patch which has an ox in an orange spacesuit. An Orion capsule is orbiting the ox.
Bottom right - Orion Flywheel sticker which has a flywheel connected to a yellow strap. The yellow strap goes around the Moon and the flywheel handle is at the end of the strap.

These past few days there were a few moon landing hoaxers, 1 woman who was concerned that the rapture would destroy 1/3 of the Moon, & a man who wondered if we were in competition with our enemies like England.
