Words with Friends notified me I was third in the standings. Never been one to be impressed with myself for such things, but “third place in the standings!” Turns out I was third place, behind my wife and stepson. Another reason to be less impressed with myself.

@ohhowbyronic.bsky.social I suppose the most classically decadent thing I’ve done is a post-coital cigarette. Didn’t start until my thirties when I had a girlfriend who would have two martinis and smoke. And I mean “really smoke.” I’d have to usher her into the car while I still had clothes on.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social Mgmt sent me a letter of deferment for my jury summons. I informed them persons over 70 are exempt; even if I do look like I’m barely 60. Subsequent msg: I may look younger than my age but my ability to navigate this infernal contraption pegs me at 87.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social Attended a CE class. The instructor was one of those quick-witted unique characters. Surprised by my stated age, she’d pegged me a dozen or so younger. I guess the goal is to look good for your age, I offered. “I didn’t say you looked good, just younger.”

Leslie Nielsen played Revolutionary War figure Francis Marion. A guy with a girls name played by a guy with a girls name. A deep state “coincidence?”

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social Dis-moi d’arreter. You seem confident of finding yourself on the other side. Are these episodes roughly similar or have you noticed a marked change in some aspect? Voilà; j’ai terminé. We could talk about you playing some form of guitar…je m’en vais.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social My french wife’s progressive french friend is married to an educated Trump voter. He once remarked it seems I use critical thinking because I’m not afraid of being in error. He now supports UHC. Three dinners since the election; no mention of Donald.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social I briefly managed a self-serve gas station one Summer. Looking at apps for the night-shift, under Arrests in the space for Disposition, one guy wrote Good. I hired him. A bullet point for a hauling service: We come to you! I’m calling them first.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social Decompress a seltzer bottle slowly. We don’t want gases escaping in the bottle. Save that for your mouth or hold a few mouthfuls in your stomach. There’s nothing more satisfying than a long loud burp in the eternal Now. Gee thanks, grandpa.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social My step-son is mix-handed dexterous. He writes and throws left-handed; bats, golfs, plays guitar right- and a variety of others, some of which are ambidextrous. So I had to ask the question. —- Curiously, he can’t close just one eye. Blinking, no winking.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social I’m filling out a form about a defective tire inflator, indicating two blown tubes. In the comment section I remarked that I’ve never blown a tube before. Now I’m pondering adding, “With the possible exception of Fee Waybill…but I was young and it was dark.”

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social It’s good to visit with old friends. Alone in the kitchen with a woman I hadn’t seen in years, I told her “I think about you every day.” One time I asked her to retrieve my bag. It was unzipped, contents spilling out. Indeed, when I zip my bag, I still think of her.

@grumpysociologist.bsky.social Trippin back. In the 80s lived in the redwoods. My hips/legs prefer steep steady climbs. Picked up a fallen stick like a recurve bow. When compressing and holding it, I perceived an assist to my forward motion; repeatedly. Never followed up on it after a month.

Oligarchic Fascism. Fascists always have Clergy somewhere in attendance. It isn’t Left vs Maga or Religious vs Secular; it’s the Filthy Rich vs Ordinary People. Ordinary Hungarians just chewed them raw. It’s time to eat the Filthy Rich and their Christian White Nationalist collaborators.

@paulogia.bsky.social Response to a rather strident pastor: “You strike me as one of those who feels cheated by the notion of not being able to view the suffering in Hell. “Jesus hates that. Maybe you’ll see the suffering after all.”
