I turned my Xbox on today for the first time since December 2023. My daughter turns 2 next month. These things are related.

Are you a student? Three easy things that will help you succeed in any class: 1) Read the syllabus. 2) Read assignment guidelines and rubric. Follow them. 3) NAME YOUR FILES (not Untitled 29).
I’m currently experiencing in real time both the benefits and drawbacks of animated slide deck. Benefits? It looks cool. Drawbacks—the presenters keep accidentally skipping ahead and then going back takes way longer than no animation and it’s annoying as the audience member.
You know it’s a good conference when there are multiple concurrent panels that you must decide between…BEA has that problem every year.
I’m in Vegas for BEA. I got Indian food on the way back to my hotel tonight. It was toooo spicy. So I ate it (and enjoyed it!) and then I *had* to go get the fancy-looking gelato downstairs to help calm the heat in my mouth. I had to. It was required by…the law.
It’s been awhile since a book made me stay up late. Yesteryear just did that. I should’ve been asleep two hours ago…but I had to finish it.
I get to see TWO author talks in the next few weeks and I’m really excited! Caro Claire Burke next week and then @mommacusses.bsky.social in May! Thank you for coming to Wichita!
I got into weights when I was pregnant and have continued it for the past 20-ish months after my daughter was born. I did not know I would fall in love with it. I started this book the other day and it’s been really interesting. Worth a read!
Today is the day! My book is out in the world. It’s not a friendly world for writing about science or women or especially women’s bodies right now. But I’m so proud to be telling a story that makes a certain type of person very, very angry. www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/casey...
If you teach a media literacy class or any low-level introduction to media class, mind sending me your syllabus? Thank you!
I usually wake up with the Today show. Today it was Pete Hegseth delivering an argument and update on Epic Fury. Not the Monday I wanted. I got so angry listening to him. 🤬
I always love talking about professional wrestling! @thepwsa.bsky.social @mpcaaca.bsky.social
NEW EPISODE ALERT! OHHH YEAAHHHH!!!! This week we look at the field of Pro Wrestling Studies! @doctorcarrie.bsky.social and Chris Olson come on to talk about the cultural and industrial history of pro wrestling, its role in American and global culture, and much more! youtu.be/OITpKfBgc2w?...
Sent a message to students via Canvas. Sent to all who hadn't submitted forgetting that there was nothing to submit...so it sent to everyone in the class regardless of grade.

Journalists & journalism teachers: what do you do with your old editions of the AP Stylebook? Do you keep them? Recycle them?
Nothing like the beginning of a new semester to clean your desk/office.
I'm working on my Pop Culture course today. Here's a thread of things I've thought about while doing so... I'll be adding throughout the day! So check back.
Does anyone have any interesting assignments focused on outlines? Aside from speech or paper outlines? The way I teach public speaking no longer stresses outlines for speeches (well, I stress it, but there are no assignments for outlines) and I want them to still build that skill.
The worst part about listening to good music via headphones is the inability* to sing along with it in public. *socially acceptable inability. I am in a library after all.
My daughter is now old enough that her weekly fee for daycare went down. I'm both excited by this and utterly saddened. My baby isn't a baby anymore. 😭😭
I am by no means alone in this nor the first to complain, but I wish there were more "baby and me" type things in the evenings and not just during workdays. There are so many cool events, but they're all 9-11am on Tuesdays or something. Not conducive to working parents.
About 4 years ago, I emailed our VPSA to see if she'd mind being "killed" for a murder mystery in class. I presented on the class activity at BEA in 2025. Presenters were invited to submit their activity to a special issue of Journal of Media Education. Read about the activity here:

#Discord isn't working properly on my Mac since updating to Sequoia 15.6. I can open it, I'll get notifications, but I can't click into any of the servers. Is anyone else having this issue? I have restarted my computer multiple times and just reinstalled the app. None of that has solved the issue.
My alarm is not set this morning and yet I wake up at 6am. Stupid.
“I’ll brew you a cup while I spill the tea.” Okay, Fisher Price. I see you.
It takes very little to make me giddy. Conditional formatting on Excel is one of those things.

My daughter has had a fever four times. Three of the four times the fever started on a Monday. Weird. Case of the Mondays?
