Why do all main #ToyStory characters have the power of speech except Bullseye? Even the anthropomorphized spork and potatoes can speak, but not the horse? Justice for Bullseye!

Looking forward to giving a talk on processes of canonization in fanfiction with @anastasiaglawion.bsky.social. Many thanks to @jbrottrager.bsky.social for the invite.
Very excited about a very special event: in two weeks, some of the most interesting quantitative work on the literary canon and canon formation comes together in Darmstadt 🧵

Annual Fanficforum conference in the books & once again amazed at the interesting work done in fanfic studies across academic levels, from BA term paper to PhD thesis. Thank you to everyone who joined & especially to @julianeugarten.bsky.social whose keynote was a great start to our day!
I am very much looking forward to giving the keynote and attending this exciting event 😄
If you're interested in #fanfiction in academic terms (or interested in fanfiction full stop) check out our student conference next week (accessible online)! Very much looking forward to the keynote by @julianeugarten.bsky.social & exciting presentations by BA & MA students from Germany and the UK.
I actually had a discussion about this yesterday. The hate for fanfiction has 4 components: 1) It directly defies capitalism. Capitalism tells us that only things that are profitable are of worth. Most fanfic is free and so people equate free to bad. 🧵 #fanfiction
cool work at #CHR2025 by @julianeugarten.bsky.social on the sentiment trajectories in fanfiction! @comphumresearch.bsky.social

This article by @julianeugarten.bsky.social is a fascinating glimpse into fanfiction responding to Ancient Greek mythology as well as a meditation on the suitability of specific digital methods for analysing fanfic, emphasising the importance of close reading in computational literary studies 👀📖
