out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels celtics, valkyries, bike racing, tasteful snare fills

lol the league of pissed off voters isn't taking a position on prop G in their voter guide for just the dumbest possible reasons as you'd imagine. look at my progressives, dog.

watching UCLA v. oregon, a classic big 10 matchup, and my two observations thus far are (1) it is not surprising that the team basically owned by nike has the ugliest uniforms you've ever seen in your entire life and (2) UCLA's running back is named wayne knight

these AI guy posts are all bait but the idea of outsourcing your parenting to robots so you have more time to build AI apps shows the most darkly backwards priorities I've ever heard

lol matthew schmitz is not only a princeton grad who lives in new york city, but one of the leading lights of the attempt to create a new right wing intellectualism around schismatic radical catholicism and culture war populism. i'm very interested in his thoughts on ella langley, obviously.

I see the NYT is still platforming 'dei crushed white men' bullsh*t. Here it's buried in a 'why rural themed pop culture' is so popular in a piece written by a Princeton grad who lives in New York City. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/13/o...

Today, it’s country music that — for all its commercial success — represents the underdog. As diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives accord advantages to everyone except straight white men; as globalization and an urban, knowledge-based economy have impoverished and emptied out rural communities; and as trust in institutions including higher education and the federal government declines, the culture of rural working-class whites can symbolize an unconstrained way of life that stands apart from the stifling, all-encompassing H.R. bureaucracy that everyone else lives in.

i hate to pick on mike here because i agree with the rest of the thread and have given up my anti-helmets-all-the-time advocacy efforts, but these arguments irk me because (1) bike helmets do little-to-nothing to prevent concussions and (2) head injury anecdotal arguments are always overdetermined

the pro-helmet arguments are also strong — i've personally been in a scooter accident where i got a concussion and wouldn't have if i had been wearing a helmet! ask any ER doctor or nurse about bad cyclist injuries they've seen. helmets can save your life!

the almost-2-year-old is really testing my "never refuse to read to her when she asks" principle. solid 45 minutes on the floor reading every single board book while she eats her bowl of chickpeas one pea at a time.

as someone who probably pays like $300 a month for various subscriptions and is beyond burned out on every writer i encounter starting a paywalled newsletter “for the just the cost of a cup of coffee a month” i do think advertising supported journalism was good but i’m not turning ublock off sorry

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social · 2mo ago

everyone — consumers, publishers, writers — would wind up better off if web browser ad-blockers didn't exist and the rationalizations for using one are mostly clever justifications for what's just selfish behavior with obvious negative social consequences.

very funny that the leading fake-progressive NIMBY website mostly dedicated to destroying a park to make it slightly easier to commute from daly city to marin has just completely embraced wall to wall AI slop
