Researching for a future essay: To my horror game enthusiasts out there, why do you play or watch others play them? What does it provide for you? And to my sweet folks who can't do horror games, why not? Don't get too personal please, but I'd love to read your experiences and thoughts. 🩷

kintsugi Our vessels carry years of scars. Some physical, others soul deep. Visible or not each line of gold is a testament to our healing, to our strength and our resilience. We are not diminished by where we have broken. We are evidence of healing, of the pieces we gathered and tended with care.

TL;DR: I'm taking a hiatus from streaming on Twitch due to the updates to the AI training policy. I will instead be focusing my efforts on updating our Patreon and releasing more video essays for the Pilot Episode YouTube channel.

Hi Station Nation:

I'm at the podium tonight with news that I didn't really want to deliver, but given a more thorough look over Twitch's Privacy Policy and Amazon's Generative AI Disclosure Policy, I've determined that I would prefer to completely opt-out of training data entirely. It feels, to me, that the option to 'opt-out' is cosmetic and that Twitch has been collecting the content of my videos and streams for awhile to use as training data. This includes personal stories shared, original creative works, etc. The button is an appeasement given to squash backlash, but there's no telling how long collection and training has actually been occurring.

As an artist this is deeply disturbing and feels like a personal violation. So I've come to a crossroads where I must decide whether or not I swallow this bitter pill, knowing that my creative works have been harvested and fed into the machine and continue streaming, or step back completely to refuse feeding any more of my work into it. At this point, I haven't made a choice and need more information to make one that is more permanent.

In the meantime, I will be going on hiatus from streaming while I wait for more news and to deliberate my next move. At this time, my intention is to dedicate my typical stream time to producing more high-quality video essays for Pilot Episode—as that channel has been opted out of AI data training sets since its inception.

You guys know my stance on Gen-AI and LLMs. While our works are underfire as creators, we must decide where we draw the line. This is where I draw mine. Sharing my creative works and passion projects with you all has been a blessing and this knowledge does not change that fact. However, I must take steps to protect my original property, and at the same time, want to do my part in protecting the art of other artists.

I will still be active and present in our community, as this space has grown beyond livestreams on Twitch. You can expect more frequent updates from me on our Patreon (free to become a member, btw) and videos uploaded more regularly

Thank you guys for your understanding. ♡

What a fantastic game, genuinely. I had such a blast playing through In Sound Mind with you all; thank you for joining me for the finale tonight. We sent everyone over to @thestinga.bsky.social and friends for their big 24 hr party. Take care of yourselves this weekend, and I'll see you Monday!
